Overview

A deadly accident can take a life in more than one way.

Four years ago, Carlene Adams made a deadly mistake. A tragic accident derailed the future she'd hoped for, taking the life of the man she'd planned to spend forever with.

As a self-imposed penance for her solitary sin, Carlene has given up on every dream she ever had. She has committed to spend every remaining moment trying to make up for that one instance when everything changed.

Then she gets a second chance.

When Carlene meets Nick Johnson, the single kiss they share awakens the desires she shoved aside for so long. Suddenly she wants more than what she believe she deserves. Will she ever see him again?

A thing of fate.

Leaving the life she built on regret, Carlene waits for fate to intervene. But just as she begins to believe in a fresh start, she's forced to realize a horrible truth--one with the power to send her second chance crashing before it even takes off.

Nick isn't who she thought he was. She isn't the girl he believed her to be, either. Their lives were intertwined even before they met, and if Carlene tells him the truth, she'll risk tearing them apart--for good.

Meet the Author

Dori Lavelle, is a mother, wife, and lover of happy endings and mint chocolate. She thinks love and chocolate make such a perfect pair, do you agree? Give her a great romance novel with a hint of suspense and a mug of hot chocolate and she'll be a very happy woman. Oh, don't forget to leave behind a couch with lots of cushions. And maybe light the fireplace?

What drives her to write romance? There can never be enough romance novels in the world. So, she decided to contribute.

Growing up, Dori read a lot and when she wasn't happy with a particular ending, she wrote a different one, just for herself. Before long, she was writing full-length novels when she should have been doing homework. The time has come for her to share the stories she cooks up in her head with her readers.

I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review, so here it is. WOW, this one threw me for a loop. A very sad and heart-wrenching story. Carlene is living and working at a shelter, trying to make her life better. The shelter has helped her after her fiance's dead and she was left alone. The guilt she feels from his death is tearing out her heart and her soul is damaged forever. On the anniversary of that fateful day, she stops at the local church to light a candle in Chris' memory, as she has done since his death. Only this time there is someone else there too. The gentleman hears her crying and asks if she is okay and she says she is fine. He ask her to have coffee with him. She does. He tells her his name is Nick and after the coffee she gets up to leave and slips and the stranger catches her and they are so close, and he kisses her. She has feelings stir that she thought were long gone. Then he leaves and she knows she will never see him again. With help and a shove from her best friend, Melisa, Carlene moves out of the shelter and starts a new job. Things are beginning to look up for her. After she returns a purse, the lady offers her a job at her jewelry store. Carlene is doing well at the store and making enough money to move into an apartment of her own. One day she looks up and sees Nick standing there with a stunningly beautiful lady. They are there to buy an engagement ring. Carlene is heartbroken. Things change for them both. What will happen when they learn who the other is? Can Nick forgive her for what happened? Will Carlene be able to explain what happened after she realizes who Nick is? This is a first for me by Dori Lavelle and I loved it, so much I quickly bought book 2, I have to know what happens between Carlene and Nick.

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

Cliffhanger grrrrrrrrrrrrrr I hate cliffhangers and usually I would give nothing higher then a 4 due to that but dangin it this book was good.

It was way to short but I LOVED IT. I can't wait to find out how Carlene truly lost her exboyfriend. Now I have to wait a month to find out if
Nick and her break up or get together, if they can work through all the issues. Is this quits or will they find their way back. I just know in
book two Carlene will break our heart with her story and can Nick really find out what happen and get over his issues.

Going through life is never easy, when one looses it all and hits rock bottom there is only one way to go up but how many times must
you hit and rehit those rocks before you can finally come out ahead not only in life but love. Carlene just came out of rock bottom to go
right back down. She went from having a life to loosing it all and then to having a life. Will she loose it all again? She will have a choice
to move on or stay with those rocks. This books said so much but leaves so much out there is so many ways this next book can go
which leaves your mind spinning and you just have to know.

Right now Ms. Lavelle I am not liking you to much but at the same time I adore you style in writing. I am almost postive that I would
enjoy reading any book you write.

I am torn as to how to review this book. I really enjoyed the plot and the direction but I found it to be too fast. I would have loved more information and a slower pace. It is a novella and not a full novel so that is why it was short but it left me wanting so much more. With that said, I wasn't disappointed with what I had in front of me. The idea and story line was terrific. Girl goes from nothing to everything to have it all lost? I guess I'll find that out in the next one :)
The beginning of the story was great and even paced with the shelter and meeting the characters was nicely done. I am looking forward to hearing more of the history of what happened and I like the way the author pulled us into that but didn't reveal too much, left us to keep reading to find out more.
A good Cinderella fairy tale :)

I really wanted to love this story from start to finish, but there were a few nagging hang-ups that just couldn’t be ignored. Firstly, it was very predictable. It moved quite quickly in the beginning, and there was a lot of hinting at the past that haunted Carlene, and the reason she found herself in her current position, which meant I never really connected with her character. Things accelerated even more when Nick entered the picture, and then suddenly the brakes were applied and that’s when I really started to enjoy this read because I finally understood the characters a bit more.

This story had a Cinderella feel to it as Carlene stepped out of the shadow of her past and into an entire new world of riches, diamonds and the limelight. But, unlike Cinderella, Carlene didn’t quite find her fairytale ending…or did she??? I’m not a huge fan of novellas and short stories, only because I find that they are either crammed with too much info, or there’s just not enough to the story; It’s almost like someone just chopped a full length novel in half. So, even though this was a great book, I felt a little cheated when it ended so abruptly.

The ending, as sudden and unexpected as it was, was a great set up for the next book, though. I am looking forward to finding out if Carlene will get her fairytale moment, or if her past will continue to stand in the way of her happiness.

Carlene was part of a tragic accident that killed her fiance. She left everything she knew behind and has been hiding out helping others in need. It's been four years since the accident and she meets Nick. They talk and share a kiss that gives her the desire to start her life over. She doesn't know if she will ever see him again. She gets a wonderful job and her life starts to improve greatly. Another chance encounter has her meeting Nick again and she finds he has a few secrets she didn't know. Her past may just come between them before they have a chance at love as well. They have more in common than they know but it may be to much for them to handle.

This is a short quick read but you really want more after you finish it. Carlene has let her past keep her from living a normal life and it takes meeting Nick to get her to see she needs to live again. She s a good person and you keep wanting her to succeed in her goals. You really don't get the details on how the accident happened with her fiance and it does leave you wanting to know what happened. She seems like such a good person you have to know. Nick at first to me seemed like a nice guy. In the middle of the story I kinda didn't like him for his secret and the ending I didn't care much for him. At times he can seem like a super great, sweet guy and others times you want to knock some sense into him. Carlene and Nick both have a lot of chemistry between them which you get to see when they get together. The ending left me wanting the next story now as I have to know how things are going to turn out. This book will only wet your appetite as you wait to see what the future holds for these two.

Review: Moments in Time #1: Entangled Moments

Entangled Moments by Dori Lavelle is the first book in the Moments in Time series. It has a cliffhanger ending that will leave you groaning in frustration until the next book is out. You are a wicked woman indeed Dori Lavelle. Wicked.

Carlene is just barely keeping it together each day until she meets Nick. They are both paying their respects at a local chapel and he asks her to go for coffee. In a perfectly quaint scenario she has an almost slip and fall and he catches her and leans in to kiss her good and proper in the middle of the coffee shop.

After this inspiring event and with the encouragement of a dear friend, Carlene sets out to come to terms with the tragic past and take slow and steady steps forward.

As the title suggest, the characters in this tale are entangled in each other before they are even aware of the how or why of it.

The book is about 100 pages (i.e. shortish) so the characters develop quickly and events happen steadily. You won't be bored. Romance, a little heat, a whole lot of angst, and a really sweet tale (albeit with a wicked cruel cliffhanger ending)(*groans*).

    Entangled Moments
is a novella length story that packs a punch.

Carlene Adams life took an extremely wrong turn that ended in the death of her fiancee. For four years, she has tried to gain personal penance by putting her life goals on hold and working on serving others at a homeless shelter.

When she has an expected encounter with a tall, handsome, stranger Carlene decides to give life a second chance. But when she discovers the true identity of her stranger she realizes he might be the one person that has the biggest reason to hate her.

Irresistibly drawn to Nick, the stranger, Carlene can't seem to stay away...will their secret tear them apart forever?

Dori Lavelle created a story that left you wanting more. This fast paced romance has a mist of doom surrounding it from the beginning but you still pull for that HEA. Lots of questions are left unanswered, keeping you looking for Moments in Time #2.
