Overview

In 1997, Phelps (Columbia U.) began work on a three-year research project on the mounting challenges to the Italian economy. He brought to it his nonmonetary theory of unemployment, his search for the form of market economy that provides the greatest rewards in terms of work satisfaction and productivity, and his concern to reintegrate back into the business sector the many workers in the US and Europe who became marginalized during the 1970s and 1980s. He presents the six semi-annual reports he prepared during the course of the project. The several papers prepared by members of the group will be published later in Italy. He has not provided an index. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
