This volume of poetry, like my other collections of poetry currently in ebooks, dates from the early 90s, is all original, and is mostly free verse in style.
However, there are several differences in this presentation, from that in my other volumes of poetry, such as my poetry for sports, teachers, nurses, lovers, the law, the arts, and family.
In format, this ebook is not divided into sections, as those other editions are, such as by type of sports or arts.
All the poems are listed alphabetically.
The reason for this is, I felt there is no one group with enough quantity to justify breaking up the book into tiny segments. With slightly more than six dozen poems, they are, I believe, more easily identified in the click-able index I’ve included, than by creating almost as many chapter topic headings as poems.
Additionally, in terms of intent, celebrating the best of what it means to be a teacher, artist, in a helping profession, or participating in a sports activity, is something most of us, I believe, have little problem doing. Even if we would differ in what we felt was most important to key on. ;-)
With business, with the law and those who practice law, and with law enforcement and the military, a greater variance, I believe, occurs.
We have opposing political parties, and strongly support or oppose various business lobbies.
Yet, as my wife and I sat and stood in booths in malls and art shows for nearly a decade, at times during 12 hours sets per day, we encountered people who wanted and needed, the same kind of celebration of the best they saw in more neglected poetic topics - banking, surveying, accounting, car sales people, funeral directors, and so many more.
Our goal became to let people let us know what they wanted to be able to give to others important to them, in a short written poetic format.
Finding the best in a given vocation, became, it turned out, finding the best we all have when we enter a profession. The desire to serve, aid, help, improve, protect, and fulfill ourselves.
Finally, a few poems from the other collections are included here, such “Middle School Teacher” and “Police Work.”
My other topic poem collections, such as teachers, sports, nursing, and others, have such a great number of poems we were fortunate to write about, they are included in those other collections specific to those subjects.
Examples of the wide range of poems from these other collections include “School Bus Driver,” “First Baseman,” “Security Guard,” “Phlebotomist,” and “Victim’s Advocate.”
