    Nice Intro

Great book for new entrepreneurs, although anyone can benefit. Tons of practical information in a tight package.

Every new entrepreneur should read this book

I¿m a member of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) and I've worked with new entrepreneurs for the last 10 years to help them with business plans, investment, employees, etc. I was sent a copy of this book as a gift by a client. I really wish that I had come across it years ago. Many of the people that I work with could benefit from a basic introduction to business and Entrepreneurs Notebook delivers. While it has lots of information on the basics, it also has many details that put things into context. For example, I spend a lot of time with clients teaching them how to form a company, how to find a decent lawyer, how to produce basic financial statements, etc. This book covers almost all the bases in a way that's very easy to understand. While it does miss a few things, they¿re relatively minor and easy to learn about as you get going. All and all, I think that this book is one of the best books on starting a business that I¿ve ever come across.

    Amazingly informative

I read a lot of business books, especially on the subject of entrepreneurship, and came across this gem recently. While it's a relatively quick read, I have to say that there aren't many books out there that contain so much information packed into such a small amount of space (it's a little more than 200 pages). Beyond the information, this book is an enjoyable read. It's a bit difficult to classify the Entrepreneur's Notebook since it's not exactly a 'how to' manual or textbook. Basically, the author attacks ten different aspects of starting a new business head-on and dedicates a chapter to each general topic. Some of the chapters are mildly technical (such as when he discusses share allocation), but I found the most amazing parts of the book to be the less technical chapters. For example, he uses a bath tub as a metaphor for cash flow. Brilliant! I've done a lot of cash flow modeling over the years and feel like I can finally see the light. Also, the last chapter on management was outstanding if only because I've read a lot of books about management and this one out-maneuvered every single one of them in about 10 pages! All in all, I'd highly recommed this book to anyone who is planning to start their own business, or who is relatively new to entrepreneurship, and who wants a ton of great information from a single source.

Superb introduction to starting a business

When I left my job last month to finally start my own company, a few of my old colleagues banded together and bought me a veritable library of books on starting new businesses. Entrepreneur¿s Notebook was the smallest and ended up on the top of the pile so I read it first. When I was finished reading it, which only took a couple of days, I had clearly learned an incredible amount of information. In fact, I went back through it with a highlighter to be sure that I didn¿t forget certain concepts. The book is great. It¿s clear and fun to read, and two or three of the chapters handled some pretty dry subject matter in a very approachable way. BTW, after reading this it made the rest of the books almost useless. In fact, I didn¿t even get through them because this book really said it all. The only other book that is truly worthwhile, but more of a reference, is The Entrepreneur¿s Guide to Business Law. Both are highly recommended.
