Equity of Fearby Rudy a. Mazzocchi
What price might governments or powerful organizations pay to control the fear of pain or the fear of death? What limits would prevent them from eliminating anything or anyone standing in the way? How far would they go to control the monopoly over a technology that could subliminally control the human brain, and what power would they have over the lives of billions, if successful?
Based on true medical discoveries and ongoing research, this second novel in The EQUITY Series touches on the most personal emotion impacting everything man faces on a daily basis. Fear drives us all, be it fear of failure, the fear of being alone or fear of death. Once again, man's predisposition to take control and ownership of the human spirit is at the core of each matter, always for the sake of profit and personal gain. Such is our brutal new world, where fear becomes the equity of evil.

Incredible second book in this series! So happy to see Roman Citrano again. A spectacular read!
Absolutely Speachless! My head is still spinning from the first novel (EQUITY of EVIL) and was so thrilled to see the return of Roman Citrano in this second book. I finished it in three days and felt totally exhausted by the end. Unbelievable suspense! How many more in this Series?
Wow! It's hard to believe this is a first novel for Rudy Mazzocchi. What an intriguing medical suspense novel. Watch out Robin Cook, Tess Gerritsen, and James Rollins. If your looking for a book to generate discussion at your next book club, this is the book for you. However, make sure your group can handle the topic. As a person who reads voraciously, I'm in constant search of new authors. Besides beginning a medical suspense, it's a bit of a Sci-FI based on some actual factual new technology. More importantly it explores what motivates people to do make the decisions they make. Granted this tale starts slow, taking a few brief chapters to introduce the cast of characters. The characters may seem extreme, but the business and medical research world is full of highly intellectual individuals who sometimes make despicable decisions in seeking fame and fortune. However, without these kinds of individuals we may never have had knee implants to ease or arthritic knees or artificial lens to use after cataract surgery or developed vaccines to rid the world of Polio. But this story explores how different individuals justify the choices they make. Don't miss this book, I'm going to by Mr. Mazzocchi next novel tomorrow.
Once again author Rudy Mazzocchi ventures into the shadowy world of controversial medical technologies. In his first thriller, Equity of Evil, the author revealed a dark world involving abortion, human trafficking and organ cultures. In this his latest instalment and 2nd book in the series, Equity of Fear, he boldly delves into subjects of the re-wiring of the brain to eliminate fear and the alteration of memory. Fascinating and terrifying stuff, to say the least. Dr. Frank Moretti is CEO of Recon Innovations, a company that is developing a new technology designed to help millions of patients get rid of irrational fears, such as the fear of heights or darkness. He is also working on a neuroplasticity program designed to rewire the brain and restore the memory of Alzheimer’s patients. It all sounds like the perfect way to contribute to science and help humanity. However, the USA, Russia and Japan are secretly competing for this technology, for a nation that would be able to control fear and pain in the minds of the people would also be able to create a supreme, invincible army. Roman Citrano, a member of the Recon Board of Directors (also the protagonist in book 1 of these series), warns his friend Frank about the possible sinister repercussions, but Frank decides to move forward and license the technology to other countries. For this purpose, he flies to Japan with his teenaged son Joey—a big mistake, for soon both fall into an evil vortex of international intrigue where sadistic, unscrupulous doctors experiment on orphan children in the name of science, and where father and son have to fight for their lives. This was a great read! First of all, the science behind it, which the author so skillfully describes and explains, is both absorbing and horrifying. It truly reminds us of the two very different facets of science and what can happen when greed, ambition, and plain and simple human nature get in the way. The story moves pretty quickly in spite of all the ‘science talk.’ I really liked the three main characters, Frank, his son Joey, and Roman, and felt compelled to stick with them to see how they were going to get out of their difficult predicament. I especially enjoyed the character of Joey; he really added spunk to the dialogue and situations. The Japanese scientist villain is well rounded, and I appreciate the tact and responsibility of the author in describing the Asian culture in the book. The ending is satisfying and utterly surprising. One last word of caution, Equity of Fear has some scenes that are quite violent and graphic in nature, so this isn’t a read for those of you faint of heart.
I'm not a big fan of sequels or trilogies, but Mazzocchi followed with another unbelieve, suspensful and down-right scary second novel. Characters and storyline is even stronger than his debut novel, EQUITY of EVIL, which was one of the best thrillers I've read in such a long time. These are both destined to become best-selling novels AND "hit" movies! An incredible story!
