Overview

What does it mean to earn the Silver Oakleaf? So few men have done so. For Will, a mere boy, that symbol of honor has long felt out of reach. Now, in the wake of Araluen's uneasy truce with the raiding Skandians comes word that the Skandian leader has been captured by a dangerous desert tribe. The Rangers are sent to free him. But the desert is like nothing these warriors have seen before. Strangers in a strange land, they are brutalized by sandstorms, beaten by the unrelenting heat, tricked by one tribe that plays by its own rules, and surprisingly befriended by another. Like a desert mirage, nothing is as it seems. Yet one thing is constant: the bravery of the Rangers.

In this red-hot adventure, winner of the Australian Book of the Year Award for Older Children, John Flanagan raises the stakes on the series that has already sold millions of copies worldwide.

This is the most recent book in this series (at least released in America) and it is just as good as the other 6 books in the series. It jumps back a tad from book 6 for the reason that there is a year or two that are missed between books 5 and 6. This book focuses on Will's transformation from apprentice to a true ranger. He doesn't believe that he is ready for this big step and not ready to leave Halt. Through the book he learns that while he may still have things to learn he can do just fine on his own. The characters in this book are just as vibrant as in the rest of the books. I picked this book up in the airport because I knew the other six books were awesome... I was not disappointed!

I love this series. Can't stop reading. Looking forward to more from John Flanagan. Eventhough this is supposed to be for the younger reader, I think older readers will love this series.

I was very impressed by how john put the "lost tug" situation but the new land cenary and how this book belongs before book 5 just had me confused from the start. Their wasnt much else interesting exept that the finally destroyed the last bit of rebels in skandanavia. I would recomend fo ages 9 and up becuase some parts are sad and some are confusing so that is the most fitting age limit please buy now it is a wonder full book and also i recomend reading them in this order 1 2 3 4 7 5 6 8 9 10 11 it will make the most scence i that order. -Easton Webb, remember the name 10% luck 20% skill 15% consentrated power of will 5% plesure 50% pain and 100% reason to remember the name! My fav song

Again, Flanagan delivers a good storyline, however, the reader should know that this book actually takes place before book #5 and #6. You might want to read Erak's Ransom before the other two. It makes more sense and even the author indicates the sequencing is off a bit.

It has suspense, action, wit, and my favorite part, different points of view so you can see the story from multiple perspectives. I really liked this book and you will too, though I recommend you read books 1-6 first, or this one could be a little tough to understand, as it references the other books 10/10

This book takes us back before books 5 & 6. Erak gets captured and this brings the gang to the hot barren land of Arrida. I found it odd because if you don¿t read the authors note you would never know that it takes place before book 5. I didn¿t realize this until halfway through. The new characters introduced in this book are amazing and one of the parts I liked the best in the series happens in this book. This was a really quick and very worthwhile read. Any Ranger¿s Apprentice fan should continue on reading the series as it keeps getting better and better. Can¿t wait to read book 8. Reviewed by Kole for Book Sake.
