Overview

In this charmingly illustrated book, A. G. Moore traces the emotional journey of Ernesto, a boy who learns to appreciate the family heritage which is a part of who he is.

Ernesto enjoys his life; he feels it would be perfect, if only he could change one thing: his nose. He wonders why he was born with a nose that looks like his, so he asks his grandfather how this came to be.

"Abuelo," he asks, "why was I born with this nose?"

Because Abuelo and Ernesto have a loving relationship, the boy listens closely to his grandfather's words. Abuelo relates a story about how the family was saved long ago because Ernesto's great-grandfather was able to smell a terrible storm coming. Abuelo explains that the very nose Ernesto regrets having was exactly the one that enabled Great-Grandfather to save the family.

Ernesto realizes that his nose is a gift from his family and he is proud to have that gift. He imagines the wonderful things he might do one day, just as his great-grandfather did on a stormy afternoon.

This book is a gentle tale about self-acceptance; just as all noses are not the same, neither are all people. Being different may be a good thing. In difference talent might be discovered, talent which will enable a child to forge a very distinct and unique future.

Meet the Author

Writing is a solitary occupation, and yet it is among the most social of endeavors. While the writer works alone, the words produced are sent out to the world in the hope of finding an audience. There is a kind of madness that all writers share, especially those who have not yet found their audience. The work proceeds, buoyed often by nothing more than determination and ideas.

A. G. Moore writes books, stories, blogs, tweets, essays. She finds the exercise of framing a thought carefully to be a medium for intellectual growth and personal understanding. Crafting a piece fastidiously often leads her from a place of unfounded assumption to one of informed clarity. Research is always part of the process, as is deliberation and a struggle to find the truth.

Her interests are wide-ranging. She is a student of history, a passionate supporter of animal rights, and an unflagging advocate for child welfare. She is a willing student of almost any subject, but draws the line at the spurious and injurious.

While writing is a rewarding exercise in itself for Ms. Moore, she retains the hope that the torrent of words that spill from her keyboard will find a small patch of fertile ground and somewhere take root to have a positive impact on the world.
