Children's Literature - Annie Laura Smith
As if surviving the storm of the century, Hurricane Emily, isn't enough, catastrophe experts, Chase Masters and his father, must deal with an impending volcanic eruption after an earthquake on their trip to Mexico to find the missing Rossi Brothers Circus. The scenes quickly shift from the hurricane ravaged Florida winter quarters of the circus to the ready-to-erupt active Mexican volcano, Popocatepetl. Although the Masters find the circus, the lions have escaped their cages, the flood waters are rising, and a leopard prowls unattended. Some villagers have died and others were injured during the catastrophe. Chase and his father sort through the disaster consequences, and call in a SEAL airlift for aid. The chapters are designated in time intervals which gives a sense of immediacy to the fast-paced action of the story. This novel is the conclusion of the "Storm Runners Series" which also includes Storm Runners and The Surge. Reviewer: Annie Laura Smith
Kirkus Reviews
The third and concluding volume in Smith's breakneck Storm Runners trilogy shifts the scene from a circus' devastated winter quarters in hurricane-wracked Florida to the ominously active Mexican volcano Popocatepetl. As in the previous episode, Surge (2011), the action picks up with minimal recapping. Hardly has Hurricane Emily blown through than worrisome news that all contact has been lost with the Rossi Brothers' Circus, on tour near Mexico City, in the wake of a major earthquake. This sends a crew headed by catastrophe experts Chase and his father John to the rescue. Smith immediately scatters his party over Popocatepetl's shaking, landslide ridden slopes amid clouds of ash to discover human corpses, dead elephants and big cats, desperados, trapped refugees, dozens of badly injured villagers and (just to crank the suspense up another notch) an escaped tiger. Though the SEAL airlift that John eventually calls up to get everyone out of their various pickles is unalloyed deus-ex-machina (and can you say "international incident?"), at least it provides a tidy getaway to go with the resolution of several personal side plots. A wild, roller coaster ride despite the credibility-stretching ending. (Adventure. 11-13)

In this third daring book in the Storm Runners series, Chase and his father go all the way to Mexico. Tomas, the helper of Chase's father, are going to Mexico because Tomas's family is in a predicted earthquake. Now, back to the beging. When Chase's mom died, a few weeks later, there was a terrible storm. Chase's father got struck by lighting and lived. Once that was over, his dad sold every piece of land they hand and bought a tralier and a rv then traveled the world with Tomas charging people a fourtune for fixing their home after the storm has passed. So, they just follow storms. Oh! I almost forgot. Chase's father melted his wedding ring and pierced his ear and made a lighting bolt. He wears it every day. This is a must read series!!!!!!! Will have you hanging off your seat!!! Please read the series in order! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 8 year old son and I have enjoyed the entire trilogy, and "Eruption" was a great ending! In fact, I read the whole book myself the night we got it after he went to bed. Very exciting, lots of twists and turns, and good action. We loved the animal elements, everything from a cute poodle to an escaped tiger. The reading level is more for that of an upper elementary to junior high student, but definitely a book that parents of younger kids can read to them.
