School Library Journal
Gr 4 Up A dead man on a raft in the South Pacific causes Dr. Jake Cooper and his teenage children to investigate the disappearance of Adam MacKenzie, a missionary to the island of Aquarius. There they find a colony of businessmen, college professors, housewives and the like, under the leadership of Kelno, a man claiming to have founded ``a brand-new world, a place free from crime, war, bloodshed, and greed''but who is actually a demented megalomaniac. After many breathless encounters with fire walking, human sacrifices to a giant snake, earthquakes and vicious African tiger flies, the Coopers rescue the missionary. Stereotyped characters include the brave, born-again American Christians versus the Satanic Kelso and his deluded followers. Implausible plot, improbable setting, undisciplined writing, but the headlong pace will keep readers turning pages. The Christian message that Kelno is the Antichrist of 2 Thessalonians and Revelation is stated unequivocally. Best for Christian schools and conservative church libraries. Pat Pearl, First Presbyterian Church Library, Martinsville, Va.

Liked this one more than the first!

Jay and Lila Cooper join their father on a trip to the Island of Aquarius to rescue a missing missionary, Adam MacKenzie. When they arrive, they discover a man claiming to be Adam who has declared himself the leader of a bizarre colony. The man claims his people want to live in peace away from the modern world. But people keep dying. And when Jay, Lila, and their father start investigating, they become the next targets of the mysterious Moro-Kunda. And to make matters worse, the island is in big trouble. Earthquakes and erosion are tearing the island apart. Will the Coopers have enough time to find the real Adam MacKenzie before the island destroys itself?

I enjoyed this Cooper Kids book almost more than the first. This one didn't have the political issues that the first had, which was the hardest part for my son to sit through. Peretti is such a creative author. The things he comes up with and the way he pulls them off amaze me. He has the mind of a movie director. I loved the action and the mystery in this one. It was exciting and the Cooper kids showed true courage and faith as they experienced the Island of Aquarius. Highly recommended for readers of all ages.

    Great Book....

I am going to have to give this book FIVE STARS. I think it had a great starting chapter. The first thing that happens in the book is that they find a dead guy floating on a raft off the coast of this weird island. This gives the book an opening thrill making the read get interested in the book right from the start. There is no lack of suspense in this thriller I could not put the book down to long it was like I wonder what is going to happen next in the story. When they first get on the island it is very dark and they have to walk across this bridge, which they hear a weird noise coming from below, but it is to dark to see what it is. This bugged me, because I was anxious to find out what that noise was. The curse that was going around the island was very strange. I was just as confused about where that curse was coming from as the main character was. I am going to say it was a very weird conclusion on where that curse was coming from. Also how the so-called Adam MacKenzie forgot all of the things he learned and taught to other people. I knew something wasn¿t right about that. Eventually Dr. Cooper (the main character) found out who the imposter was. It was amazing the control this guy had on the island he was very manipulating. He would try to scare them into obeying him, because he was trying to keep them out of the forest he told them if they went into the forest that a curse would take over them. Of course these people believed him and obeyed him. When you find out the thing they worship on the island you will be freaked out. Of course Dr. Cooper runs into this thing they worship which he is astonished, so was I and I am sure if you read this book you will be to. They also had a great adventure trying to get away from the evil guy who was trying to kill them. Eventually they find the real guy they were looking for. They had to find a way off the island, but they wanted to help get the other people off the island to. Eventually they figure a way out and the evil guy gets rejected by the god he was worshiping. He deserved what he got for being evil. They get the truth across to the people living on the island that if they don¿t get off it something bad is going to happen to them. Something is happening to the island that they don¿t know about, but Dr. Cooper knows. Though I am not going to tell you if they do or don¿t get off the island , but you will have to read to find out for yourself. There are some main key points in the book that I left out for you to discover on your own. If you are looking for a great Adventure Fiction book I hope you choose this one. It will always keep you on the edge. You will never want to leave the book alone to long, because you won¿t be able to wait to find out what happens.
