The pseudonymous Coyle (a husband-wife team) makes the jump to hardcover with this enjoyable coffeehouse mystery, the seventh in the series to star Clare Cosi, the crime-solving barista of Village Blend (French Pressed, etc.). Breanne Summour, the "disdainer-in-chief" of Manhattan fashion magazine Trend, is engaged to be married to Matteo Allegro, Clare's ex-husband. Sharing a grown daughter, Clare and Matt remain friends and business partners. When a 22-year-old dancer who looks like Breanne is shot after performing at Matt's bachelor party, a frantic Matt believes Breanne was the intended target. Clare agrees to protect Breanne until the posh wedding at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but after the murder of Breanne's former assistant, Clare's life is in jeopardy, too. This mellow-paced cozy includes some surprises for both bride and groom, who must deal with the bitter fruits of their past actions. Recipes and coffee tips are a bonus. (Oct.)

In this hardcover debut of the popular "Coffeehouse Mystery" series (French Pressed; Decaffeinated Corpse), New York City coffeehouse manager Clare Cosi's ex-husband and business partner is marrying the editor of a scandal magazine. But someone has decided to kill the obnoxious Breanne Summour before the wedding. Having been hired to create a gourmet coffee and dessert bar for the nuptials at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Clare is dragged into protecting the bridezilla. Coyle's "Coffeehouse" books are superb examples of the cozy genre because of their intelligent cast of characters, their subtle wit, and their knowledge of the coffee industry used to add depth and flavor to the stories. Recipes and coffee-making tips are nice pluses. Coyle, a pen name for a married writing team who grew up in Pittsburgh with Italian parents, brings to the series a love of New York City. Highly recommended for all mystery collections.

Kirkus Reviews
Bridal jitters are the least of the problems for an amateur sleuth trying to smooth a path for her ex-husband's second wedding. Clare Cosi, manager of the Village Blend coffee shop, shares a past and a daughter with Matteo Allegro, who's about to remarry. Despite her misgivings, Clare's been hired to run the gourmet coffee and dessert bar at the high-profile wedding of Matt and Breanne Summour, the tough, beautiful editor of Trend magazine. Breanne doesn't much like Clare, whom she suspects of wanting Matt back. That's something Matt's mother, owner of the Blend, would dearly love to see, but Clare's moved on to NYPD detective Mike Quinn (French Pressed, 2007, etc.). When Breanne is almost run over by an SUV, it seems like an accident, but when a look-alike stripper hired for Matt's bachelor party is shot to death, Clare begins to suspect that someone wants Breanne dead. Breanne's certainly made a lot of enemies, among them a drug-peddling ex-husband, a resentful former boss and several members of her staff, past and present. Clare visits underground restaurants, temples to high fashion and the hotel room of a seductive Italian sculptor in her attempts to keep the wedding plans on track and the bride alive. A realistic depiction of New York City high and low life. The smattering of recipes, romance and caffeine-fueled detection add up to a lively tale. Agent: John Talbot/Talbot Fortune Agency

Her ex-husband Matteo Allegro is getting married and Clare Cosi, head barista of The Village Blend coffeehouse, is responsible for the desserts and coffee bar. Clare dislikes Matteo¿s soon to be bride, Trend magazine editor Breanne Summour because the woman is mean and nasty lacking any kindness in her personality.------------- A car almost hits Breanne Matteo pulls her to safety. At his bachelor party a stripper who looks like the bride to be is murdered by a sniper while she walked on the street with Matteo and Clare. Matteo asks Clare, who has conducted several successful investigations, to look into the stripper¿s death he believes someone wants Breanne dead. Clare knows Breanne has many enemies and few if any friends however she doubts anyone would loath the woman enough to kill her even the wedding help dealing with this odious Bridezilla. Her opinion changes after spending a day with Breanne besides Clare wanting to kill Ms. Mean, Clare overhears Monica, a worker, talking suspiciously on a phone and not much later Monica is found dead in her office. Although the world wants Breanne dead, Clare has to figure out who is willing to actually kill her.------------- ESPRESSO SHOT is one of the best whodunits in the Coffeehouse Mysteries. Matteo comes across as a caring person who has given up his hope that one day soon Clare will remarry him he has found another woman to love. His feelings for both women affirm he is a tender compassionate man with a big heart even if his request places his beloved in danger as he is confident of her skills. The mystery is a wonderful amateur sleuth tale filled with chilling incidents (besides spending a day with Bridezilla) Clare is almost robbed, shot at and attacked. Cleo Coyle creates mysteries that fans will appreciate while drinking coffee.-------------- Harriet Klausner

I can't wait for the next Cleo Coyle book to come out. I have never been to New York, but Cleo Coyle paints a picture that I can't resist. I may have to go there and check it out! I love the characters and the humor.

I loved Espresso Shot! Clare Cosi, the single-mom/barista sleuth of this "cozy" Coffeehouse Mystery series, gets roped into finding out out who wants to kill her ex-husband's bride-to-be. The trouble is Breanne is a snobby witch who has made dozens of enemies. Can Clare unmask the killer before the wedding day (without strangling bridezilla herself!)? Well-done plot, clever writing. Great read! Looking forward to next in series.

All of Coyle's Coffeehouse books are pure fun but this one has a new twist with Clare trying to protect her ex-husband's bride-to-be, Breanne. With no love loss between them, the beautiful, successful Breanne grudgingly agrees to accept Clare's investigative expertise in connection with the string of deaths involving individuals connected with Breanne.
