    Nice skimming.

This beauty book is okay but its very basic. Not personal or detailed enough for me. i would go to the library and read it first befor buying it. also i would have loved to see more variataion with othe model's makeup too. lots a brown, looked like mud to me.

    Very pleased

I was very much impressed with the way this book was put together. It was very informative. Alot of Black women do not know how to care for our skin, so this was very resourceful.

┬┐Essence Beauty Basics & Beyond┬┐ by Patricia Hinds is a well

“Essence Beauty Basics & Beyond” by Patricia Hinds is a well -balanced book that features African American women of different complexions and hair textures. I had to get this book because beauty information for my physical features can sometimes be tricky to come by. My own physical features and hair texture are due to an amalgam of the following ancestries: Native American from my maternal grandmother’s side (she is a Menominee Indian woman from Wisconsin), Puerto Rican from both my maternal and paternal grandfathers, and African American from my paternal grandmother’s side (she was a Black American woman originally from Birmingham, Alabama). This book contains a diverse set of information both for women who prefer to continue relaxing their hair and those that choose to keep it natural. This information is invaluable to me because I was a natural from 2003-2011. I then decided to straighten it in April 2012, but I want to give myself some time before I straighten it again (in order to ensure that I am doing it for the right reasons). I admit that I am still a novice when it comes to makeup, and this book also contains some great makeup information. I’m blessed that my husband accepts me with both my natural hair and make-up free, but I’m glad that “Essence Beauty Basics&Beyond” offers a range of makeup and hair styling options. The following is some of the helpful information available in the book:
Pages 16-17: A “Hair Hookup” guide depending on various hair textures.
Page 115: Information on the different blushes to use depending on skin complexion.
Pages 88-91: How to tell your skin type and the different types of nutrients available for healthier skin.
There is much more quality information in “Essence Beauty Basics & Beyond” by Patricia Hinds.
