Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Viewed against such exacting standards I have to concede, albeit reluctantly, that this book passes the test –almost with flying colours. The author, a senior lecturer at Christ Church College, Canterbury, introduces a wide range of educational uses of the internet, from getting online and searching for information to creating your own web pages. From The Critics
Reviewer: Mary A. Curran, RN, PhD (University of North Carolina-Charlotte)
Description: This instruction manual for the Internet shows the reader how to get online, navigate, find information, communicate, access resources, publish, get help, and search for employment.
Purpose: It is intended to provide the reader with a thorough understanding of how to find and use Internet resources. This book can be used as a classroom teaching aid or a self-instructional guide.
Audience: Written for students of health studies and all healthcare professionals, the book spotlights the fields of nursing, radiography, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, health promotion, and social work.
Features: The book is composed of nine learning units designed to help the reader understand the Internet and explore its components. This exploration is aided by worksheets, guided activities, and question/answer sections. Appendixes, tables, charts, diagrams, and note boxes provide further information. Information updates and extra worksheets are supposed to be available at a special web site maintained by the author. However, I found the recent content to be minimal and outdated.
Assessment: The author has written an interesting book. Much of the book supplies readers with a good understanding for the proper behavior and use of the Internet. However, there are areas where the content could be timelier. In addition, although the Internet is a worldwide resource, some of the information may not be relevant to readers in the U.S.
A photocopiable resource for teachers and a self-instructional guide for students, showing how to get online, navigate the Web, find health information on the Internet, and communicate with other health professionals. Gives instructions on accessing free health and medical resources, publishing on the Web, using the Web for help with assignments, and searching for jobs. Each unit contains step-by-step instructions for activities, plus photocopiable worksheets. Chellan teaches research and information technology at Canterbury Christ Church University College.
