Meet the Author

Soo Downe is Professor in Midwifery Studies at University of Central Lancashire. She is the founder member, steering group member, and Chair of the Royal College of Midwives Campaign for Normal Birth, the Francine Gooris International Midwifery Chair in Belgium, Chair of the International Confederation of Midwives research standing committee and Visiting Professor,Kwong Wah Hospital, Hong Kong.



Sheena Byrom is a Consultant Midwife at both the University of Central Lancashire and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. She is a member of the National Consultant Midwives Group and member of several East Lancashire stategic partnership boards for Teenage Pregnancy, Domestic Abuse and Sure Start

Louise Simpson is a postgraduate student at the University of Central Lancahire, currently working on a PhD entitled 'Midwives views of the nature of midwifery expertise', supervised by Soo Downe and Sheena Byrom.
