The book is a welcome addition to the field.
Purpose: The purpose, according to the editors, is " bring our enthusiasm for integrating hypnosis with empirically supported methods to a wide readership and to move hypnosis securely into the mainstream of established clinical practice." Indeed, the editors have produced a valuable and informative guide for the practitioner.
Audience: The intended audience includes both novices to hypnosis and advanced practitioners.
Features: The book covers definitions and history, theories, getting started, techniques, smoking cessation, eating disorders and obesity, depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, pain management, behavioral medicine, and dentistry. The references are informative and timely. The indexes are useful as well.l.
Assessment: This is an educational and enlightening introductory textbook of hypnosis. Even advanced practitioners would benefit from reading this exceptional book.
