Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"The book is detailed and comprehensive covers almost all that a general practitioner, undergraduate and postgraduate could want to know about radiology and radiography... The book is well laid out, with each chapter starting with the basics before moving on to more complex areas. This is helpful as it means the information is accessible to all; you can start from the beginning and work through full chapters, or simply access a particular area you are interested in...There is the additional benefit of an online self-assessment module, available once you purchase the book, which contains multiple choice questions, extended matching questions and 'drag and drop' style questions. This would be very useful for anyone revising for undergraduate or postgraduate examinations... I can see why previous editions of this book have been so popular. It is easy to dip in and out of, so knowledgeon particular topics can be easily refreshed. The clear explanations make a potentially arduous topic to revise interesting read. A must have for undergraduates and GDPs alike!"

British Dental Journal, January 2014

Great informative book giving all the basics of radiation protection, technique and a helpful section on how to improve image quality with selection of poorly positioned radiographs. I recommend this title for the dental room in X-ray departments and/or dental nurses/students.

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Bart Paul Vandenberghe, DDS, MS, PhD (c)(University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery)
Description: This elaborate and practical teaching manual for future dental professionals covers the subjects essential for developing adequate radiographic and diagnostic skills, through reader-friendly and up-to-date chapters. Previous editions were published in 2002, 1996, and 1992.
Purpose: The main objective is to provide a practical teaching manual rather than a comprehensive reference for dental students. This is nicely accomplished with this practical walk through the essentials for future radiographers. The manual is well structured, up to date, and contains high quality illustrations and diagrams.
Audience: Dental students are the audience.
Features: This is an accurate and well structured overview of current principles in oral radiology. It is comprehensive, covering theoretical and clinical topics in reader-friendly chapters with excellent illustrations and diagrams. It provides all basic knowledge for future radiographers, including an adequate and essential overview of common oral lesions. Experienced practitioners, however, may want to consult more comprehensive books for a more in-depth overview of oral lesions and differential diagnoses.
Assessment: This book is an ideal teaching manual for developing basic radiographic and diagnostic skills. The fourth edition has been revised with extra focus on digital imaging and new diagnostic approaches. All diagrams have been redrawn, new color plates have been added, and the content has accurately been updated. The book remains a strong guide to easy understanding of this rapidly evolving field; however, for more detailed descriptions of certain oral lesions and differential diagnoses, it may be necessary to consult more comprehensive references.
