Reviewer: Elizabeth K Dee, BA, MD (Denver Health Medical Center)
Description: This comprehensive, general musculoskeletal textbook includes up-to-date information on MR imaging and interventional procedures.
Purpose: Dr. El-Khoury's goal is to provide a comprehensive but concise general musculoskeletal textbook for practicing radiologists, musculoskeletal fellows and residents. Orthopedic surgeons may also find this a suitable reference book. Musculoskeletal imaging is a complex field requiring knowledge not only of radiology but also of anatomy, pathology, orthopedics, rheumatology, etc. A book like this that can synthesize the enormous amount of available information is always useful. Each topic is thoroughly and clearly reviewed with numerous, high quality illustrations.
Audience: This book is written primarily for residents, fellows, practicing radiologists and clinicians with an interest in current musculoskeletal imaging. This is an excellent reference for any radiologist and all radiologists in training could benefit from reading this book.
Features: The chapters on MR imaging and interventional procedures are particularly interesting. The information in these chapters covers new ground, not discussed in some of the older or more basic musculoskeletal textbooks. The number and quality of the images is superlative.
Assessment: The high quality of the writing and images as well as the inclusion of the newer advances in musculoskeletal imaging and procedures makes this book an essential component of any radiology library.
