Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Adele L. MacMurray, RN, CRNA, BSN (Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing)
Description: This attractive book includes a history of nurse anesthesia along with current clinical practice rules and standards guidelines.
Purpose: It is an excellent review textbook for nurse anesthetists preparing for certification examination.
Audience: It is aimed at nurse anesthesia students and practicing nurse anesthetists.
Features: The illustrations are clear, pertinent, and well placed. The index is complete — almost a cross-index — and is quick and easy to use. A review of the contributors reveals professionals well known in the nurse anesthesia field. Their contributions illustrate an enthusiasm for their chosen field and a current picture of their knowledge.
Assessment: Although written as a review of facts already learned and as a quick reference (according to the preface), it should be a mandatory text for nurse anesthesia students. It should be available in nursing libraries, medical libraries, and medical bookstores.
