Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"This is a very useful book for the intended audience. It is very basic, so radiology residents will probably not find it that useful after about six months of training, but nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical students, and primary care physicians should find it extremely useful. There have been sufficient changes in the field of radiology to warrant the new edition."- Bennett Greenspan, MD, MD(Medical College of Georgia) Doody Review:5 stars

Reviewer: Bennett S. Greenspan, MD, MS (Medical College of Georgia)
Description: This introduction to radiology covers radiologic anatomy, fundamentals of imaging, and description and evaluation of common clinical problems. The two previous editions were published in 1996 and 2005.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a basic introduction to radiologic anatomy, fundamentals of image production, and image interpretation and an approach to common clinical problems using radiologic techniques.
Audience: The book is written for an audience of medical students, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, primary care physicians, and first year radiology residents.
Features: Very basic information on instrumentation and imaging acquisition using the various modalities begins the book. The remaining chapters are based on the organ systems of the brain, head and neck, chest, breast, cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal system, genitourinary system, and skeletal system, and conclude with nonskeletal pediatric imaging. The book explains the basic anatomy that is evaluated in each organ system and by all of the modalities, and principles of interpretation of many diseases and conditions. Also included is a description of the evaluation of various clinical problems, including the best approach for each one, which should be very useful for the intended readers. The appendix contains information on the costs of various imaging procedures and the radiation exposure, which is also very useful information.
Assessment: This is a very useful book for the intended audience. It is very basic, so radiology residents will probably not find it that useful after about six months of training, but nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical students, and primary care physicians should find it extremely useful. There have been sufficient changes in the field of radiology to warrant the new edition.
