    Magnificent

I've been a long-time student of the NASB, for the value of it's literalness and consistency with the syntax and grammatical rules of the manuscriptural translations. And, I still refer to it daily.

However, I recently obtained a copy of the ESV Study Bible and have already been taken aback. The quality of the scholarship for the linguistic notations, the cross-references and footnotes is superlative in regard to any study bible I've encountered thus far in my studies. There have been some very recent enhancements to our understanding and translating of certain Greek manuscripts that have long proved difficult, and as the ESV Study Bible is a 2008 publication, it holds the most current and adept grapplings with the rigors of the original languages.

Furthermore - and I will never denigrate the NASB - the ESV is far more readable. Being birthed, originally from the (1971) Revised Standard Version translation, and first published in 2001, the ESV is written in high-quality British English and is both grammatically and sytactically fanastic for the reader. It differs, in this regard, from the NASB, which holds to a more little syntax original languages (which, surely, is to its credit, but makes a more difficult read).

I could not more highly or enthusiastically recommend the ESV Study Bible as the version of choice: both as a teacher and life-long student of the scriptures.

    A Beautiful Bible

The ESV Study Bible is simply a beautiful Bible. I love the Forest/Tan Trail design. It's got a simple, rugged look and I love the engraved ESV type on the spine. It's a gold page bible, and boy is it shiny.

The ESV Study Bible has nice, extremely comprehensive maps, charts, and diagrams at the beginning of each book. There are also book summaries and historical contexts. Lots of nifty features are at the back of the Bible also, including a dense concordance and a plethora of other resources and information you would never expect to find in a typical Bible.

This Bible is incredibly detailed. There are many pages where there's more explanation of the verses than there is actual material. You know it's a good study Bible when you see that. In addition, the ESV translation is beautifully poetic yet easy to follow. I love this translation so much.

Just watch out for the size, would be my only suggestion. This thing is so hefty that I got a smaller ESV in addition to bring to church with me. All in all, however, the ESV Study Bible is a great, sturdy Bible which I'm looking forward to serving me for many, many years to come.

Best Purchase I've Made in a Long Time!!

I am so pleased with this Bible!! I find myself wanting to read it with a passion each day. The reference material within it is absolutely amazing. It helps to make God's Word come "alive". You will be so pleased, I promise! The overviews on Biblical doctrine, ethics, interpreting the Bible, archeology references, history of salvation, reading plan, etc., etc., - there is SO MUCH material to help you appreciate and love the Bible! The quality of the binding and the pages are excellent as well. I did a great deal of research on Study Bibles before I purchased this particular Bible. Money is tight for me so I wanted to make sure that this purchase would meet my expectations. I wasn't disappointed!! I highly recommend this Study Bible - I wish I had the financial resources to purchase a copy for my all my loved ones and anyone who has a hunger to understand the Bible and grow closer to God. Enjoy and may you be blessed for your desire to more fully understand God's Word!

    study Bible for my brother

I searched for a while for the right bible for my brother. He was headed off to the Army and I wanted him to have and understand God's word of truth. He has been studying and growing closer to God. It is simple to understand and take in. I am so proud that he is learning the love of God and applying it to his everyday life. When a new Christian starts the journey with our Lord it is important to be simple and for the sinner to know how much God loves them and it is his will for them to come to him for eternal life. Thank you
