Overview

Writing together for the first time, national bestselling authors Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands present the darkly passionate story of two men sworn to conquer the hunger that pounds in their blood—and the women who may be their only salvation. . .

When Darkness Falls. . .

Cathal MacNachton and Connall MacAdie are cousins bound by far more than blood ties and the rugged Highland landscape their clan calls home. The ancient curse of their ancestry has fated them to live by night with an unquenchable thirst that neither can tame. The only thing that can save their souls is marriage to Outsiders—mortals whose untainted blood will weaken the curse in their children, and break the chains of fear that have made their clan a breed apart.

Bridget Callan and Eva Caxton are the women who will shape the clan's destiny. Marriage to these strange and mysterious men rescues each of them from desperate circumstances—and draws them into a web of danger, desire, and intrigue.

But Eva and Bridget refuse to be pawns in the battle that erupts as the future of the cursed clan hangs in the balance—a war that must be fought after the sun sets over the deep, still lochs. Whatever the outcome, they'll stand strong by their brooding warrior lairds, willing and able to face down their enemies—and fulfill their desire for eternal love. . .

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
With the current popularity of "creatures of the night" and all things Scottish, this pair of linked stories scores a double hit as it takes two not-quite-mortal Highland cousins determined to break the ancient curse that binds their inbred clan to darkness and bloodlust and brings them each the one thing that can accomplish this a mortal bride. But there are those in the clan who like things the way they are; and as the cousins make wedding plans, others plot something far more sinister. Well-matched protagonists find purpose and love in these fast-paced, creative tales, which feature flashes of humor, unbridled passion, heartwarming tenderness, and differing yet complementary styles. Contributors to the paranormal anthology His Immortal Embrace, veteran romance writers Howell (Highland Warrior) lives in West Newbury, MA, and Sands (Tall, Dark, and Hungry) lives in England. more from this reviewer

These Two Authors work PERFECT together!

Cathal MacNachton is from a clan of vampires and is seeking a bride who is an Outsider (not of his clan) to strengthen his family line. It has been over 40 years since the clan has had children born to their clan. He finds a bride in Bridget Callan who was rescued from thieves and murders from Cathals uncle Jankyn, who delivers her to Cathal. Cathal woos Bridget (who is not entirely human herself, but has Feline blood in her and some special qualities that go with it) and makes her is bride. Others in his clan, the Purebloods, are not happy with this revelation and try to crush this growing romance...but to no avail.

Connall MacAdie is from a clan of vampires and is Cathal's cousin. He also seeks an Outsider bride of his own and finds Eva Caxton. A lady he met at court one time while her brother was trying to "sell" her to the highest bidder, even though she didn't have dowry. Connall offers for her and Eva is brought back to the clan. She is welcomed with open arms by his clan, but Eva feels like she needs to be valued and tries to do things not necessarily good for the clan people, them being vampires. Connalls nephew tries to thwart their love by attacking and almost killing Connall so he could take over the clan.

Both stories were well written, funny, loving, and the characters were perfect together! I look foward to more of these two authors writing together and for their own stories as well. Highly recommend!!!

    I Also Recommend:

    Loved It!

The Eternal Highlander is a great short-story book. Two families of vampires trying to extend their family lines by taking on a human bride. One finds a feisty feline, while the other finds a meek survivor. If you're looking for something quick and romantic then this would be the book for you. I look forward to reading more from these authors.

    I finished it!

Both stories in this book were lacking.... One story went from the first kiss to the next chapter and a period of time had gone by and they were now into heavy groping...I don't know. Seems like both stories could have stood well on their own, but perhaps too much was edited out to make into ONE book (or two short stories). I was disappointed in both stories.
