Overview

Haven Moore can't control her visions of a past with a boy called Ethan and a life in New York that ended in fiery tragedy. In our present, she designs beautiful dresses for her classmates with her best friend Beau. Dressmaking keeps her sane, since she lives with her widowed and heartbroken mother in her tyrannical grandmother's house in Snope City, a tiny town in Tennessee. Then an impossible group of coincidences conspire to force her to flee to New York, to discover who she is, and who she was.

In New York, Haven meets Iain Morrow and is swept into an epic love affair that feels both deeply fated and terribly dangerous. Iain is suspected of murdering a rock star and Haven wonders, could he have murdered her in a past life? She visits the Ouroboros Society and discovers a murky world of reincarnation that stretches across millennia. Haven must discover the secrets hidden in her past lives, and loves, before all is lost and the cycle begins again.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Miller (the Kiki Strike books) delivers a smart and sinister tale of romance and destiny that should spawn plenty of imitators. Haven Moore has spent her entire life in the small Tennessee town of Snope City, kept under tight watch by her religious grandmother and the town's priest. She's generally able to resist and control her visions of a past life with a man named Ethan, but when she sees a picture of Iain Morrow, a handsome New York playboy, she starts to suspect they share a bond that could date back centuries. She runs away to New York, where she finds not only Iain, but the Ouroboros Society, a mysterious group dedicated to helping people discover their former lives. Even as feelings for her newfound (or rediscovered) lover awaken in her, she realizes that both Iain and the society are keeping secrets from her. Her investigations take her further into the society and threaten her life. Miller's writing elevates the supernatural romance well beyond typical fare, and Haven's mix of naïveté and determination makes her a solid, credible heroine. Ages 12-up. (Aug.)

Haven Moore is a master seamstress. It is almost as if she has carried this gift with her through many lifetimes. A young high school student, Haven dreams of moving away from the small Tennessee town where she lives, and setting up her own shop in a far away metropolis. Haven also carries with her the memories of a past life—one that she cannot forget. She has had visions since she was young, but now they have become more frequent and more intense. Haven is drawn to a young man; Ethan in the past, and now Iain in the present. Her relationship with this boy has gone on for centuries, and now Haven must find a way to be with him forever or break the cycle entirely. Is Haven strong enough to look into her past and uncover the mysteries that lie hidden there? If you are looking for a novel filled with mystery, suspense, intrigue, and romance, look no further. The main theme of the novel is reincarnation. Individuals live hundreds of lives, constantly searching for people to whom they are connected, like Haven and her counterpart, Iain. The short chapters help propel the story forward; however, some parts lose momentum due to verbosity. This almost-450 page novel could have been shortened by about one hundred pages and not lost any of its initial integrity. Fans of Twilight and similar stories will definitely want to give this novel a try. Reviewer: Jonatha Basye
