Overview

How do we, as humans, arrive at what we call morally or ethically good or bad decisions? What processes are involved in making ethical decisions? Is there a developmental process involved in moving towards ethical maturity? What do insights from education, psychology, business studies, neuroscience, biology, primatology and other professions tell us about ethical processes?

Ethical Maturity in the Helping Professions provides a comprehensive overview of the most influential ideas in ethical thinking across the ages and considers the ethical challenges faced in various contexts of educational, research, business and organizational sectors. The book reflects on the history, philosophy and science of ethics through an interdisciplinary approach; it makes the reader ponder and seek answers to questions on their ethical decision-making and what influences play a role in shaping them. Different ethical theories are viewed based on their usefulness rather than theories for their own sake. What makes the book stand out is, the authors question themselves and their ideas which lead on to the introduction of a brand new model for becoming an ethically mature professional.

This book is essential reading for Psychotherapists, psychologists, counselors, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, health care and allied professionals.
