He is a member of the National Academy ofEngineering and the Institute of Medicine.

MIRIAM D. BUDINGER, MD, is a pediatrician and physicianscientist with a career that has focused on adolescent medicine,infectious diseases, and the design and conduct of clinical trialsin immunocompromised patients. She is currently a Visiting Scholarat the University of California, Berkeley.
