    Diana, Raining Fire

    JADE
Luke got to his feet. "What do you mean, save our lives? Are you threatening us?"
Kyle stood. "I need to go home. Mom will be wondering."
"Sit down." I admit it, my tone was cold. But they were boys and they were being dumb. Sorry! "Do you not remember the flippin' /werewolf/ coming after you? You'd be dead if it weren't for me!" I looked them in the eye, one by one. Yeah, my eyes are freaky. Mismatched, blue and green, who cares? I think they're cool. Though some don't. Anyways... My voice was quiet as I said, "I'm sorry, but it's time for a reality check. You guys can't go home. Ever." I waited as that fact sank in.
Luke clenched his fists. "You can't make me stay here!"
"Yeah!" Kyle chimed in, and soon they were both yelling at the top of their lungs at me.
I put my hands over my ears. "QUIET!" I took a deep breath, willing myself to stay calm. "Do you want to live or not? If I wanted you dead, you'd be dead already! Get that through your heads! I'm the good guy here!"
"Ok, I need to start from the beginning here. Follow me." I propelled my chair over to the computer console on the wall. I pressed a button, and all of it, the giant screen, the keyboard, the speakers, everything, shrank down on the wall to a tiny screen with a tap keyboard and installed speakers. In the place of all the giant stuff was a doorway. Black velvet outlined the area. I stood and walked up to the door. I pulled out my dagger and heard a collective gasp from behind. "Relax, you two. Denira, Scenario 1-A, please." I laid the dagger in a small indent that was inlaid in the black surface.
"Request acknowledged. Processing... Scenario 1-A ready."
With a nod, I walked through the door. Luke and Kyle followed reluctantly.
As soon as I entered, a large screen lowered from the ceiling and a projecter in the back of the room turned on. "You two might want to sit." I grabbed a pointer and turned to face the pair. "You two are clearly beginners. You have no clue what in the world is going on, and you think you're going insane." Pictures flashed on the screen. A werewolf, a pixie, a queffle, a skiltan.
I watched their faces change: surprise, confusion, horror. As I started to speak, more pictures flashed. "A long time ago, Man shut out Magik. It was too complicated, too different, too strange. It didn't fit into their 'boxes' of what should and should not be. Soon, the ability of seeing magic and of weilding it was lost. Very few were left who could see it, and passed it down through their family trees. Not all possessed it, but those who did were in more danger than anyone else in the world. Those who had the ability are known as Mages. The magic is still out there. Good and bad, dark and light. They watch over us. Light protects the world, while Dark tries to destroy it. Most of the time, though, the two forces hang in balance. Some who possess the Magic go to the Light and fight for the greater good of the world. Some go to the Dark. Either way, monsters will hunt you down and try to kill you, to drive Magic into extinction."
"Wait a sec. Aren't monsters Magik too?" Kyle asked.
"Not quite. Think of The Magik as Magic and Monsters, 2 seperate things. In Magic, there is Dark and Light. Dark will normally side with the Monsters, but should the Monsters kill the last Mage, Magic will be lost forever."
"And this has to do with us how…?" Luke.
"The werewolf wouldn't have attacked if you were normal. It's obvious to me that you two are Mages."
    Mind bomb.
