Overview

The cold rain drummed the memory of the horrible crash into my mind-mom dead, my hand ruined. Then a year later, coming out of a coma to realize my full-ride scholarship was gone and I'd never play the piano again. But the worst of it was nobody believed me-the voices, someone holding me in the mangled car, mom being ripped away from me.So here I am in Anderson, Wyoming, living with Uncle Connor while Dad's on assignment in Europe. School started and I met Jonathan, amazingly handsome Jonathan. He made me feel like life was beginning again-until I discovered that mom's death wasn't an accident, that a supernatural realm was trying to draw me into a coterie hundreds of years old, and that my friend Eric wanted to destroy me.Not the easiest way to begin my senior year..

I really enjoyed this YA novel, and not just because I know the author! Its blending of questions of faith, practical reality, teenage issues, and the supernatural creates an intriguing story, and there were a few times I was taken by surprise by the storyline. I particularly like Jonathan's character, and I am anxious to see how the depth of his character is developed through the sequels. I appreciate Beth's complexity, which mirrors many young women's struggles with negotiating relationships. I am particularly intrigued by how Morgan reinvents a Biblical myth and blends it with the supernatural in a fresh narrative. I highly recommend this novel for those interested in the supernatural YA romance genre. It doesn't disappoint!

This is such an amazing book with a story line that, although fictional, has so many aspects that are still so vividly real. It will connect with people from all walks of life, ages, and backgrounds due to its story and complexity. The reader is drawn to the characters as they struggle with both physical and emotional conflict. However, there is a deeper struggle the main character is faced with that transcends the natural world, at least as she has always believed it to be. This book is a MUST READ.

This book has the most believable hypothesis for immortality of any of the YA books I have read. The theory is approached from both the theological, and scientific angle. Woven into these possibilities is a touching love story involving characters you want to learn more about. The music motif will make you want to put on some of your favorite classical music and dream. It will grab you, hold you, and have you begging for the sequel (isn't everything a series/trilogy today?) at the conclusion. On a final note (pun intended), I believe this book's appeal will be more broad than the YA market alone.

This is a great book! (And I'm kind of a book snob...) Unlike Twilight, it's well-written with robust and believable characters and a story that draws you in until you can't put it down. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll get pissed off, but you wont want to stop. If you're like me and you're always looking for the next great novel that you wont be able to put down, Étude is just what you're looking for - you wont be disappointed.

While this story starts following a pattern similar to many others of its genre, (ie., Twilight Saga)---girl moves to new place, girl falls in love with guy, and girl finds out evil forces are out to get her---that is where its similarities end. Etude's story does not center itself around the romance between Beth Arrington and Jonathan Rollings, rather, the romance evolves as the story unfolds. Beth and Jonathan both have pasts, and because of their pasts, their meeting was innevitable. One of the most refreshing elements of their relationship is that neither hero nor heroine are perfect; in fact our hero is flawed. Thank goodness for that! While the romance is enough to keep die-hard romantics hooked, the book has much more to offer. There is a battle between forces seen and unseen that will keep you on your toes--and some scenes are just down-right spooky! I don't think I'll ever look in the mirror without wondering who might be watching me. Creepy. And then there's the recurring question of faith vs. science which the main character struggles with---and which remains pretty much up for interpretation. Another great attraction for me was the musical theme and Beth's disability--how often does the main character in a YA novel have a disability? This is something that nearly all teenage girls can relate to, that feeling that our imperfections somehow make us less whole as a person. Finally, for those of you who must have a taste of the immortal in your YA novels, you won't be dissapointed. In fact, you'll find Etude's explanation of the immortal realm very unique and original. Even the toughest critics will find themselves scratching their heads and thinking, "Hmmm. That actually seems possible."

I have read this book and I LOVE IT! It is my favorite book! I have read the Twilight Series and the Hunger Games Series and this absolutely rises above! The characters have depth and are all likeable (besides the bad ones of course) and the romance and relationships are REALISTIC which is one of the reasons I found this book attractive. It kept me interested all throughout and I believe anyone can relate to it! I love the questons it raises in my mind that i am dying to find out in book two! This is the exact definition of my perfect book. I can read it over and over, without getting bored...CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL!!! <3
