The Getty began its collection of drawings in 1981 with the purchase of a Rembrandt nude; it has since become one of the world's most important repositories of European works from the fifteenth through the nineteenth century. This third volume of the catalogue of the collection reproduces and describes 132 works acquired since 1992, including the incomparable Holy Family by Michelangelo.

Editorial Reviews

Booknews
This is the third volume cataloguing drawings in the J. Paul Getty Museum. It describes 119 works chosen for the collection between 1990 and 1993 a fourth volume will begin with 1994 acquisitions. The collection itself is quite young<-->founded in 1981 with the goal of assembling superb examples of the different Western European schools<- ->including the Italian, German and Swiss, Dutch and Flemish, French, and Spanish schools. The text is organized first by national school and then by artist, with individual entries on each of the works catalogued. Like other volumes from this publisher, production qualities are excellent, and pricing is reasonable. Indexed by artist, former owners, related drawings, prints, and works in other media. 9x12<"> Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
