Overview

To most people he is sought as the greatest of all time - the last of the Gladiators. From his early daredevil attempts using a garage door as a ramp to his infamous Snake River Canyon jump, Evel Knievel reigns as a pioneer and inventor of his own sport. Evel Ways contains more than 250 rare photos - most are from Evel's personal collection. It is a candid profile of a pop culture icon.

Born Robert Craig Knievel (he would later be dubbed Evel) on October 17, 1938 in the wild west of Butte, Montana, Knievel's imagination matched his picturesque surroundings. At age 8, Evel spotted a role model, Joey Chitwood, Chief Commander of Joey Chitwood's Auto Daredevil show. Prior to his daredevil days, Evel worked in the mine shafts, spent time in the Army, ran a hunting guide service, robbed banks and sold insurance. Motorcycles entered the picture and, as they say, the rest is history.
