For all the 5 stare reviews I was sorrily disappointed. First, the
dialogue isn't realistic and sometimes doesn't seem to fit with how
people actually talk. Second, the main character complains throughout
the entire book and her attitude never changes Third, there was no
character development. Fourth, I don't think the author proof-read her
story or had an editor for all the mistakes there were. It was laughable
how poor her grammatical skills were. Overall the story lacked depth and
a climax... it just sort of ended. Lastly, I don't rightly know what age
group this would fall under but it seemed a little elementary for a teen
book too. Sorry, would not recommend.

    Great potential...

poor execution. Abundant gramatical errors and missing or incorrect words. Reads like a first draft of something that could have been polished into a wonderful story. All the elements of a great adventure tale are present, but they just don't quite come together.

I hope that the author continues to write and hone her craft, but I don't think I will be buying the next installment.

Right in the first paragraph a character is "self-diluted" instead of self-deluded. Don't think I can read any further being a grammar nerd.

    Alexia Purdy
    Ever Shade
    A Dark Faerie Tale #1

I loved reading this book and managed to finish it within a day and a half, whilst still managing to somehow work! Shade slowly becomes a strong character, and having read Evangeline before this, I kept wondering if she was going to find out the truth about her family. I have no idea what else is in store for Shade, but can’t wait to find out.

As mentioned in other reviews there are a few editing issues, but these in no way detract from the story.

Great story besides all of the editing errors. That is not the writer's fault, the publisher either needs to pay more for better editors or needs to get backup editors for the ones they have. Good job Alexia!

    Entertaining read

It doesn't have the driving intensity of a lot of paranormal novels but it is still a great read. I was still compelled to read all three. Alexia Purdy is talented and I see her novels just getting better and better.

This was an interesting read. It started off a bit slow but picked up as the story progressed. The author created an interesting cast of characters that continued to develop as the story unfolded.

Shade inadvertently meets a Teleen faery warrior who can control electricity. That chance meeting not only thrusts her into a world she knows nothing about but puts her on a dangerous mission to help the good Seelie Faerie Court.

The author created a story with interesting twists and a few questions left unanswered. I will be looking forward to the next installment to see what will await Shade.

    Awful

I couldn't get past the first chapter. The spelling errors were atrocious, the dialogue was stilted, and action was not believable. How did this ever get published?

I absolutely loved reading this book. Every time I had to put this book down for any reason, I absolutely dreaded it. The magic between Shade and Dylan was inevitably there and whn it happened, it was spark-tacular!!

    rating 3.5/5 stars

This was a very spontaneous read for me! I decided to go back down the list of my freebies (And yes there are too many...) and I went to the very first freebie I grabbed which happened to be this one!!

I cannot remember the last time I read a fantasy novel about faeries. Ever Shade has a Hobbit/LOTR type feel, (I have watched the movies but am yet to read the books.. this really is just to set the scene), where a volunteer group is put together to assist Shade on her to retrieve some water from a magical fountain which will help prevent a faerie war which could over flow into the human world. Along the way they have overcome obstacles and challenges.

Honestly this was such a refreshing read after all the paranormal romances and dystopian books I have been reading lately. I really just enjoyed the adventure - there was no love plot angle complication.. yet. There is a hint of romance to come possible.

    Characters & Story line: 3/5

This was a great change for me to have a character that was not focused on saving her one true love or visa versa. The characters are interesting and unique. I am not sure if it is annoying or funny that everyone tries their magic out on Shade and is surprised with the results!

Shade - I love this name! I found Shade very easy to relate to and easy to understand - especially when it comes to her decisions. Shade has always been different and I like that she has accepted the voices in her head and as a part of who she is, (being that she is not crazy), she is ok that she is different.

Jack - Jack is the first magical being that Shade meets and he takes her to his oracle. Jack is so calm and nice. He protects Shade before he even realises she is important. Jack is fun and responsible.

Soap - Really Soap? What a nickname. The story where he got it is quite amusing but really.. Soap?? He is so witty and mischievous. I like him. He is definitely a character I would love to read about more.

Dylan - hmmm... Dylan what a complicated character. I didn't really like him at first because of his attitude towards Shade. I only really warmed up to him a little bit in the last third of the book. I think he has a lot of potential.

There are so many characters in the group but these are the main ones that are worth a mention. So who was the character that really irritated me... Sylphi! You going to need to read this book to find out who she is and why... I was so happy with the little stunt Shade threw at the end.. *tee hee* I was grinning from ear to ear!

    Plot, Pace, Writing style: 4/5
Ever Shade is easy to get into. The pace seems moderate and it is such a great adventure story. I like that romance doesn't play a big role and hints only comes in later. Honestly, I didn't know who Shade might like until after halfway into the book - first hint - but it is still not certain. I am #TeamSoap

Ever Shade had a great ending. No cliffhanger but there is a lot to work with in the books to follow.

    Cover talk: 3/5
The cover is nice. I like the blues and the font is catchy.

    Final Thoughts:
This is an enjoyable adventure read and I will most probably carry on with this series to see how it all goes down

Reading a book to review for authors can be difficult, because you want so badly to write something great about their artistry and hard work. Fortunately I get to say positive things about this story, but I have to admit for the first maybe 6 chapters I was worried. I felt the characters depth wasn't what it should be and the story was a little simple for a title like "A Dark Faerie Tale", but amazingly it took a turn and eventually sucked me into the story. I will without a doubt be sticking with the series, and I recommend this book with absolution. When you first start if you share my unease, just keep with it, you will be rewarded with a compelling and lovely story. Once you get used to the writing and characters around chapter 8 you get sucked into Shade's world and fall for all the different personalities you meet. I know for me the biggest twists and turns would have been the romance aspects. It felt a little rushed, but then again this is huge trial and tribulation for Shade and high emotions can create strong ones, so it was believable. Also the amount of potential suitors is a bit of a wonder, but still it added to the story nicely. Ever Shade will keep you guessing during the whole story and by the end you will wonder what is in store for this new and exciting series, and hopefully like me will continue on with it to watch it and the characters grow. Overall laddies and gents, if you are looking for love, mystery, magic and adventure then I absolutely recommend this for you. I hope you enjoy!
