Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras, hear people’s thoughts, and know a person’s life story by touch. Going out of her way to shield herself from human contact to suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high school—but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste . . .
Ever sees Damen and feels an instant recognition. He is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy, and he holds many secrets. Damen is able to make things appear and disappear, he always seems to know what she’s thinking—and he’s the only one who can silence the noise and the random energy in her head. She doesn’t know who he really is—or what he is. Damen equal parts light and darkness, and he belongs to an enchanted new world where no one ever dies.
Gr 9 Up
After surviving a car accident that killed her entire family, 16-year-old Ever gains the ability to see auras and read thoughts. The overwhelming nature of her new powers and her guilt about the accident turn the once-popular teen into a loner at school. She makes friends with stereotypically gay Miles and mega-Goth Haven, and does everything she can to drown out the din of psychic energy around her. Her loner status comes under siege, as does her friendship with Haven, when a new boy, Damen, shows an interest in her. By accident, Ever learns that he has no aura, a fact that pushes her to uncover more about the mysterious newcomer. Some obvious clues, like the red liquid that Damen drinks instead of food, lead Ever to conclude that he is a vampire when in fact his true nature is more complex. Teens will identify with Ever, who not only has to deal with relationship and friend issues, but also with a dead sister who refuses to cross over and crippling psychic powers that make it hard to cope with everyday life. Though the familiar premise may hook many paranormal romance fans, none of the plot elements receive the thorough treatment they deserve, and the revelation in the end relies too heavily on backstory. Not a first pick in this ever-expanding genre.-Kim Ventrella, Ralph Ellison Library, Oklahoma City, OK
Stop me if you've heard this one before:
Girl moves to new city. New, rich, and perfect boy shows up to school and immediately shows marked attention to girl. Boy has all kinds of odd abilities - moves fast, is drop dead gorgeous, never eats - and girl can't figure him out but can't stay away either.
Ring any bells?
I felt like I had already read the first hundred pages or so in this Twilight wannabe where Ever loses her family in a tragic car accident and moves in with her aunt in California. After the accident, Ever can see aura's and read minds - which causes no end of turmoil in her backstabbing and hormone driven high school. Then she meets the mysterious Damen and finds herself drawn to him even though she doesn't understand him. Blah, blah, blah, then someone tries to kill Ever blah, blah, blah and Damen tries to prove he is worthy of her love.
Okay, maybe I'm more than a little harsh in this review, but I felt the story was just so flimsy. The explanations for Damen's behavior were more than a little weak and his whole history more than a little implausible. Alyson Noel gives the reader just enough a glimpse into his back story to think "ok, I can sorta see it.." then changes the subject and never goes back to anything more substantial. And let's not even get me started on the villain in this one shall we? One word: CARDBOARD. And how Ever escapes from her? My eyes are still a-rollin'. The one thing I did like were Ever's geeky friends Haven and Miles. Their lunchtime conversations were much appreciated.

I think that the book had the potential to be a good read but ended up just falling flat. In my opinion this book was just a pathetic copy of the Twilight Saga. I mean come on, a 'super hot' new guy at school, somehow falls in love with the weird girl at school who no one notices but is actually really beautiful and blah blah blah. Throw in immortality, some super powers, and some catty girls at school, and you've got an awful play on Twilight.
What's worse is that Alyson Noel was an established realistic fiction author. All of her other books were realistic fiction, and it's pretty obvious that she changed her style to go along with the fantasy craze thats sweeping through teenage novels.
Also, the book is just too fast-paced, and not in a good way. One second Ever barely knows Damen, and then they're in love.
Do yourself a favor, and skip this one. It's just simply not worth your time. If you're really looking for a replacement or an equal to Twilight, than stop looking, becuase you're never going to find it.

When I pick up a book that is like that i get involved in the story. I felt like I was right beside Ever and Damen. The love story that lasts forever. I really recommend this book to those who have never read this book.

Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. For my Fantasy project book I read the book Evermore. This book is about a girl named Ever whose whole family dies in a terrible car crash. Ever since the accident ever can read minds and see auras. Her life is pretty much miserable at high school until a new boy Damon comes. Damon likes Ever but sometimes acts weird around her. Damon and ever have many fun times together but they ditch school a lot to do them. A girl Drina and Damon know each other somehow and Damon won't tell Ever how he knows her. Ever gets mad at Damon and Damon disappears and no one can find him. And you will have to read the book to find out what happens next!!!!!!! There are some positives and some negatives to this book. First I will start with the positives. First of all this book has lots of cliffhangers!!! It makes you want to keep reading on and on!!!!! Also it has very descriptive words so you can really picture how the character looks and feels. This book is very well put together. All the facts connect at the end so it makes it all the more exciting!!!!! This is a very good story, you just want to read more of the book and you don't want it to end!!! Now, there are some negatives. Some of the parts in this book are very gory. There are some scenes where there is a lot of blood involved and some broken bones. It's a little too descriptive!!!!! Also, in the beginning, the plot isn't very clear. It doesn't really start until later on in the book. Lastly, for most of the book Ever is blaming herself for the accident and you just keep wondering and wondering why whenever she brings it up. Now, the author has many writing styles. Creative is one of them. She had to think of all the events and they go great together. They make up a great story!!!!! Also she uses suspense. She ends many chapters with cliffhangers, which makes me want to keep reading on and on and on and finally when the book is over you don't want it to end!!! Alyson Noel (author) is very descriptive. Like I said, the words she uses are so rich that you can really feel what the characters are feeling and picture exactly what they look like!!!! There are three MAJOR reasons why I ABSOLUTLY recommend the book to girl (not so much boys). First of all the book really pulls you in to it when you start reading it. There are so many questions that you have that you really want to figure out. So that makes it a definite YES.
Also I recommend it, because the characters do so many unexpected things and really wonder why. That comes out to yet another YES. Last, but not least, it is overall one of the best books I have ever read and YOU NEED TO READ IT!!! Actually, one of the great qualities of this book is that it is not like any other books I've read!!!!!! Lastly, this is a brand new series!!!!! Evermore is the first book of the series and the second book, Blue Moon, is coming out in June!!!! So as you can see, in my opinion, Evermore is a great book and you should really read it!!!!

She also has regular conversations with her dead sister. She didn't ask for these new talents and her efforts to hide her gifts have left her a freak at her high school. But when Damen Auguste enters the picture, everything changes.
Damen is movie-star gorgeous, mysterious, and the one person who can block all the psychic energy Ever keeps trying to avoid. Damen and Ever are drawn to each other, but Ever can't shake the feeling that there is something that he's hiding. He's the only person that Ever can't read anything about. Damen has no aura, Ever can't hear his thoughts, and she has know idea who - or what - he really is.
Every once in awhile, a book comes along that I end up getting sucked into and become addicted. EVERMORE was one of those books. When I wasn't reading, I was thinking about how I could sneak away to read some more. I couldn't put it down. I dreamt about this book. When I finished, I couldn't get it out of my head. This book was simply breathtaking.
Ever is a wonderfully realistic character that grows throughout the novel. The guilt she feels over her family's accident and her grieving process are heart-wrenchingly real, as is her growing acceptance of her new psychic gifts. I also loved the scenes with Riley, Ever's little sister. Who knew a ghost could be so funny and charming? I know she's just waiting to have her own series written about her. And Damen...well, what can I say - I'm in love. If you're looking for a new lit-boy crush, Damen is it.
Alyson Noel knows how to write for and about teens, and this is one of her best books yet. I can't wait to find out more about the mysterious Damen and step into Ever's world again.
Combining mystery and romance, EVERMORE is the beginning of the next must-read paranormal series. Be sure to get your hands on this one - you'll be swept away.

Like so many others I was stuck on the Twilight series. I had ventured out of them, but still I was stuck with vampires. Evermore, is amazing. It thrills you when you need to be thrilled, and warms you when you need to be warmed. I highly recommend this book and put in in my top tenn lists. I can't wait for Book 2. I f you are looking fo a romance that still has tons of NEW fiction in it go fore Evermore it was great!!!!!!!!!!!

After the accident that left her orphaned, 16 year old Ever has not only survived this traumatic ordeal but can now see people's auras, hear people's thoughts and keeps getting visited by the ghost of her younger sister Riley. Ever can't stand herself anymore. She can't stand to be around people. She can't stand going anywhere without her hoodie, sunglasses, and ipod. She can't stand her life anymore and it's all because of the accident where she lost her whole family, the accident which was all her fault.
Now Ever has the strange psychic powers that allow her to see auras, read minds, and know people's life stories just by touching them. Most teens would love powers like that. Not Ever. Ever can't stand them and she only wants them to go away. And finally they do.
When Ever meets Damen he quiets everything around her. She can't see his aura, read his thoughts, or know his life story. She can finally be herself. Things seem to be great with Damen until he starts acting very weird and strange people start showing up and going missing.
Ever was a great character and so were her friends. Miles and Haven are hilarious. I think they really helped lighten the mood of the book when things started to get dark. It's always good to have some contrast in a book and I think they really provided it with a gay actor and a love starved goth chick. I also think that they were amazingly well-developed for background characters.

I enjoyed reading this! There were parts which kept me fliping through the pages and kept me guessing and wanting to know more about Damon's secrets. There were also parts that Ever, the main character, really annoyed me. Honestly, it's very similar to Twilight so if you loved Twilight then you'll enjoy Evermore as well.

Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I really enjoyed this book. It has a similar aspect as the book Fallen (which I adored). Ever is dealing with the loss of everything she has ever known or cared about, her mom, dad, sister, dog, home, friends, boyfriend etc. Everything changes after a car accident kills her whole family and she moves in with her aunt in California. Despite her huge loss Ever does gain a gift (not that she sees it that way). Ever is now psychic. Ever is forced to shut herself away from everyone to quiet the noise in her head until Damen comes along. He somehow is able to break through the noise and silence it. Ever is immediately drawn to him despite his mysterious nature. I was really glad that I didn't know what Damen was going into the book because I loved finding out when Ever did. I even found myself laughing out loud when Damen refutes her first guess. I finished this book in a little over a day and I plan to start Blue Moon tonight. This series is worth a read!

She has one other best friend who she also sees almost every sinle day. her dead sister, riley. for some reason she is still able to see her and talk to her and riley is pretty much the only thing keeping ever from going crazy. she finally has evrything figured out and then one day a new guy shows up at school, Damen, who changes everything. ever tries to ignore him as much as she can but the moment she sees him (and sees that he has no aura at all and that she cant read his mind like evryone else) she cant stop thinking about him.
this is a very suprising book. i would go on in the summary but i could go on forever and there are just to many things to say and i wouldnt want to give anything away...
this book is good. not horrible but not amazing. just good.
i couldn't help comparing it to twilight though. it sounds like the author is trying to write some big bestseller like stephenie meyer but at some parts its just annoying because she pretty much has the exact same story going on but its completely different at the same time. kinda like she just rewrote the story and changed some parts in it to try to make it sound ike her own.
yes, i do think i would reccomend this to other people. it is a very good book and it makes you want to keep reading and reading. i think i read it in about two days. it is good but its just not on the top of my list.

I say evermore was an ok book. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. It stayed the same basically the whole book. Damien would take Ever somewhere extravagant and then the next day Damien would be all over some other girl. Ever would get upset and think she hates Damien and then val the story repeats at some points the book did suprise me. Damien can't be in a room with Ever for more them 10 minutes without taking her pants off!

Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I began reading this book as a joke. My friend said it was bad, so I decided to read it to see what all the fuss was about. Something I will regret. The author tries to hard with "labels" and doesn't understand the difference between goth and vampire (watch South Park for God's sake).
My first qualm with this book is the main character, Ever. She loses her entire family in a car crash, and from then on has awesome powers. Too many powers. She can see auras, spirits (which, I may add, she doesn't mention until chapter eight. Then, it's totally dropped. We have no elaboration on any of these spirits, and no further presentation of them), can see into the future, know what people are thinking, know the answers on a test, etc, etc. She subsequently uses these powers to stalk her boyfriend. Which was entirely insane and illegal. The only thing I liked about her was her short vodka stint, which was a very good plot device.
Then there's Damen, stalkerish Edward boyfriend. However, I believe he's somewhat better than said vampire, for he doesn't emotionally abuse his girlfriend. Damen is immortal, and knows famous people from the past with no explanation. Just because you can live forever, doesn't mean you suddenly meet all these artists and authors. And just like Meyer did with Edward, Ever goes on and on about how beautiful Damen is. He was one very annoying character.
Now I'll go to the overall writing. The author reuses so many words and phrases, it's like they're the only ones she knows. This story could have been better if it was not in first person, so the author wouldn't have to pretend to be a teenage girl. This book was just...annoying. There's no other way to describe this poorly written, paced, and plotted book. Never again will I doubt my friend who says a book is like a Twilight and Wicked Lovely crossover.

I would not recommend this to anyone.

Her wonderful life ended when she was sixteen with a car accident that killed all her loved ones; her parents, her younger sister Riley, and her dog all dead. Ever also almost past away as her spirit left her body, but she was revived; her Aunt Sabine took her niece into her California home.
Once again she has everything a teen can desire except her beloved family, but Ever is also a psychic who can read minds, see auras, and holds pillow chats with Riley. She wears a hood to separate her from others as she tries to hide from the world. Her two friends are rejects who fit in with her feelings of being one too. Then Damen Auguste comes into her life and brings peace with a touch as he can block her psychic skills. He makes it very clear to her that he wants a relationship between them, but she fears his lack of an aura. Once the teen learns the truth about the lad pursuing her, Ever has to make a choice that fits her name.
Readers who enjoy the works of P.C. Cast and Stephanie Meyers will love this outstanding paranormal teen-lit thriller. Ever feels survival guilt and remorse for the accident as she blames herself; her talks with Riley are heartbreaking as her sister pleads with her to move on and live life to the fullest. Ever struggles with understanding what Damen and his friend are; while readers will comprehend the aura-less pair¿s yin-yang relationship. Fans, adults and teens, will relish the spellbinding EVERMORE.

The story wasn't bad, I have to admit. A lot like twilight, but different enough. The writing got on my nerves. It was supposed to be poetic, I guess, but there were run-ons where there shouldn't have been and some sentences were cut in half for no reason. Reading it kind of felt like taking a bath in dirty dishwater. However, it was appealing enough to make me want to read the next book. I suggest you read it and decide for yourself.

Many people said it was like Twilight and since Im a big fan of Twilight I bought it. This book is nothing like Twilight. Sure it has the same romance plot but usually romance books do. This book was somewhat enjoyable but in my opinion cannot be compared to Twilight. Plus the main character isn't even a vampire he's an "immortal." But anyways im still considering buying the second part to see what happens. Maybe there will be more excitement.
