Overview

Doesn't every day deserve a chance to be a good day? An opportunity? A shot? A tryout? An audition? A swing at the plate? After all: "This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it." But what of those days when traffic snarls, airports close, friends forget, and spouses complain? Or divorce days, final exam days, surgery days, tax days, or even days when the cemetery dirt is still fresh?

"Yes, every day," says best-selling author Max Lucado. In Every Day Deserves a Chance he unpacks Jesus' delightful formula for upgrading each of your days to blue ribbon status: saturate your day in Jesus' grace; entrust your day to His oversight; accept His direction. Grace. Oversight. Direction. G-O-D. The perfect prescription for filling your day with divine power and giving every day a chance.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Beloved Christian author Lucado (Traveling Light), whose books have sold over 55 million copies, follows the psalmist by encouraging readers to "rejoice and be glad" every day. Lucado does mean everyday—even the day you get fired, or the day you learn your husband is having an affair. Since God is in charge, even lousy days are opportunities to grow, serve and find joy. Lucado provides a formula for this tall task: "Grace. Oversight. Direction," easily remembered by the unsubtle acronym G-O-D. The first step to rejoicing each morning is to drench your day in Jesus' grace, remembering that Jesus has forgiven you for whatever mistakes you made yesterday. Next, seek God's oversight and provision in all that you do. Finally, if you "want to blow the cloud cover off your gray day," embrace the direction God offers you. To illustrate these three principles, Lucado draws on biblical stories and contemporary unsung heroes of the faith: a Christian lawyer who oversees an orphanage in Beijing, for instance. "Daylifters"—page-long reflections on Scripture—conclude each chapter, and a study guide (not seen by PW) fills out this inspiring, if anodyne, book. (May)

    I Also Recommend:

    I Love Max Lucado!

I'd also like to recommend "When God Stopped Keeping Score" by R.A. Clark. It's revealing look at the power of forgiveness. If you ever felt trapped by anger, guilt, resentment and/or pain, then this book is for you.

    I Also Recommend:

    Thought provoking!

While reading this book I found myself chuckling at how we choose to perceive the events in our lives. Max has a way of writing this book that makes the information thought provoking and humorous at times. It truly is our choice as to how we perceive events around us and as important how that perception and our reactions to it create our next moment.

Helped me get through my senior year!

I absolutely loved this book. I was in my senior year of high school, and because of certain situations goign on, I was having difficulty getting through each day at school. "Every Day Deserve a Chance" opened my eyes to how I should not take a single day for granted, because each is a gift from God! And He has a plan for each day, if we can learn to get through it with HIS strength! I purchased this book as a gift for almost all of the open houses I attended this summer. Every single of my friends that received it LOVED it, as did I when I read it. I highly recommend it for someone who is having trouble seeing past the burdens of today, someone who is faltering in the spiritual life, or someone who simply needs a new "good read." Very excellent.

    Who Knew

How about a great day, today? How do we get a great day out of a terrible crisis? Do we know how to live one day at a time? Max Lucado has a plan to do those things. Jesus¿ plan. I always though this prolific writer was an old school finger pointing boring preacher guy. In his new book Everyday Deserves A Chance I got schooled. This guy is Funny, inspirational, poignant, informative and a joy to read. I don¿t know about his previous books but this book, recommended by my friend and bible study partner Bertha, was great. I not only feel good after reading it today I have another look at one day at a time thinking. Don¿t wait this short book is a blessing waiting for you TODAY! OhioPreacher Dan Renfro

    a new begaining with God

'everyday deserves a chance' by max lucado really spoke to me cause it shows me that no matter what the tough times that I have faced God has something special planned for me. what is special about this book is it shows that you are special to God and there are perhaps some gifts that you might have that could be a great need to others. this is a special Bible based book that is very easy and fast reading and as is with most max lucado books there is a study guide in the back of the book. great gift idea for friend, family member, pastor friend, and Bible study.
