Overview

And as streams of light fan out behind the darkened sun like the wings of a butterfly, I realize that I never saw real beauty until now.

At Moon Shadow, an isolated campground, thousands have gathered to catch a glimpse of a rare and extraordinary total eclipse of the sun. Three lives are about to be changed forever:

Ally:
Ally likes the simple things in life-labyrinths, star-gazing, and comet-hunting. Her home, the moon shadow campground, is a part of who she is. She refuses to imagine it any other way.

Bree:
Popular, gorgeous (everybody says so), a future homecoming queen for sure. Bree wears her beauty like a suit of armor. But what is she trying to hide?

Jack:
Overweight and awkward, jack is used to spending a lot of time alone. But when opportunity knocks, he finds himself in situations he never would have imagined.

Told from three distinct voices and perspectives, Wendy Mass weaves an intricate and compelling story about strangers coming together, unlikely friendships, and finding one's place in the universe.

Editorial Reviews

Kirkus Reviews
Three lives are transformed at a much-anticipated total solar eclipse. Ally, almost 13, lives at the Moon Shadow Campground, purchased years ago by her parents as the perfect eclipse-viewing site. Ally loves the place and yearns to discover a comet. Jack, 13, glumly chooses helping his science teacher lead an eclipse tour over attending summer school. Bree, 13, who scoffs at science and believes that "[a] good hair day is worth its weight in gold," is horrified to be yanked from her mall-and-makeup life and taken to Moon Shadow. Readers learn through Bree what Ally doesn't know: Immediately after the eclipse, Bree's parents are taking over the campground, and Ally's family is moving to civilization. Each girl is heartbroken about her future until Bree sees the moon through a telescope, which inadvertently releases her "inner geek." Bree's shallowness is initially narratively weak beside Ally and Jack, who are both smart and honestly childlike, as the three voices alternate in the storytelling; however, by the gorgeous climax, Bree is special too. Glowing astronomical details entrance. (author's note, further reading) (Fiction. 8-12)

    Great Read

I read this book for a school book project. Honestly, I didn't think I would enjoy it. As I found out - again - never judge a book by it's cover! The details create a totally new atmosphere. One thing about this book really caught my interest... The chapters are arranged by characters' point of view. For example, there are three chapter 1's. Alley 1, Bree 1 and Jack 1. Wendy Mass introduced a new style of writing to me. I loved the formatting of this book and I ABSOLUTELY loved the storyline. Once you get into the plot and get to know the characters, you find yourself wondering, how much can change? - even in the blink of an eye.

Amazing. Puts a Smile on Your Face as You Laugh and Cry!

    This book is totally amazing.
The cover art is so beautiful as well!
Even if you don't think twice about science [kind of me], you'll be totally engrossed.
It is filled with information on stars and planets, and you soak up information without even knowing you're learning.
You can see that the characters grow as people as they learn to accept life's challenges.
The three friends, Bree, Jack, and Ally are main characters, and each have one special quality about them.
Wendy Mass lets you befriend the characters and portrays the story in such a way that you connect to each one of the characters.
It was a book that I picked up, got totally engrossed until the very end, and when I finished, I thought to myself 'this book was SO totally worth buying.'.

    Amazing

So I got this book from my younger sister who was reading it for school and figured I would read it while she had it at home, and this book may be written for 8-12 year olds, but even being 21 I loved this book!! I've also read Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life by Wendy Mass and really enjoyed that too. I plan on reading all of Wendy Mass' books because I really like her writing. This book has really made me want to learn a lot more about astrology and now I want to try to see a total solar eclipse someday.

So, so, good!!! Every soul should read this novel!

I received this through my mother's school book orders, and I was extremely happy to start reading it. I was not disappointed!! Wendy Mass created three fine characters, who just would simply like to try something new without leaving what they know and love.

Like stars? You guessed it - You will love this book!!

Three young teenagers all come together to see something that they may never experience again: An eclipse. Will they fall and crumble before it even comes?

    EVERY SOUL A STAR

EVERY SOUL A STAR is probably 1 of the most interesting books ever written. I say this based on my own experience, because as soon I started reading, I couldn't stop. This book mainly talks about astronomy, the study of stars. But what really caught my atention were the main characters-Ally, Bree, and Jack. they had nothing in common on the outside, but on the inside, they had one thing in common, fear.
this story is told from 3 unique points of view, all with distinct opinions on various situations. It's about 3 unlikely teenagers coming together on the night of a solar eclipse and finding out more about themselves than they ever knew before. this book had plenty of heart and thats what I mainly look in a book.

    Really good story

The Book was actually better than I expected it to be. This book was just different than all the other books I read. I enjoyed it very much, and its worth reading. Without doubt I would recommend this book to a friend. The story is very good at explaining that you should not hate something before you even experience it. I think if I recommend this book to my friends thy would also recommend it to their friends.
I have also heard about the other books by Wendy Mass and they all seem very interesting. I have read the reviews for 11 Birthdays and I really want to read it. Its really cool that the character's birthday keeps repeating and, I am really interested in knowing how she stops it from repeating. I haven't looked into any other books by Wendy Mass but I will be sure to.
