There are a lot of books coming out with the word "handmade" in the title.
Look for this specific book. Yes, the others are good too, but honestly, I don't know which project to make first out of this book!!
A ladybug coin purse?!??? How adorable is THAT. I want to make one for every one in my Friendship Group. Really. This review will be short, because, I gotta go pick out my favorite stash fabrics and make the "Collector's Item Tote Bag" for a few friends that are coming for a sewing weekend!
As for this book being a Martingale/Patchwork Place book - yes, look for great photography, good quality paper stock and really good patterns and instructions.
These projects are just a little bit more detailed than something you might see as a beginner sewists project, but this book will walk you through it, and you will have guaranteed success with your projects.
Go ahead, try handmade for your next gift. Your friends will love you for it!
I was looking for practical and simple items to make for gift giving. This book contains that type of projects.
There are tote bags of all kinds, coasters, pot holders, iPad/reader cases, and even a couple of quilts. Each project shows a color photo of the item, and gives the finished size. A paragraph about the item starts the written instructions and the material and cutting lists are easy enough to follow.
Graphics help the instructions along and templates, when needed, are at full size. Some items will make up quickly while others, like the quilts, will take a bit more time. Any of these items will be appreciated by the receiver because they are made with love.

This is a delightful book full of projects that will appeal to crafters of all levels of experience. I love the tote shown on the cover decorated with fabric-covered buttons and have already started sorting through my stash for buttons to use when I make a revised version of it for myself. I'm envisioning something done in shades of blue using decorative plastic buttons. One thing I like about this book is that the projects inspire me to come up with some of my own ideas using what I have on hand.
Projects include a cover for an e-reader, quilted coasters, stuffed toys, handbags and totes, a messenger bag that includes a section for a laptop, a knitting needle tote, an adorable ladybug coin purse, potholders and other kitchen items, and quilts, to name a few. Instructions are given for assembling and sewing the projects, there are plenty of photos and diagrams, and some full size patterns are included. Other projects give instructions for measuring and cutting fabric instead of patterns. Although I haven't made anything from the book yet, I did read through the instructions for each project and found them to be clear and easy to follow.
At this writing it is only February, but many of these projects would make wonderful Christmas gifts or holiday bazaar items so this book would be a good one to have now to get an early start.
