When Danny Gregory's wife was severely injured, his life was changed in an instant. Searching about for meaning for what had happened to his little family, he began to create a richly illustrated journal of his life. Gregory as driven to record and comment on every aspect of his life, from dirty dishes to cathedrals, from hospital wards to life-drawing classes, from brunch with Hell's Angels to book shopping at the Strand.
This unique book chronicles his discovery of drawing, his wife's rehabilitation, his son's infancy, and the life of the city he loves. Funny, bittersweet, romantic, and perverse, Everyday Matters is an inspiration, an invitation to look for the beauty and significance in the details of our daily lives.

    Would not recommend this book

I Love Danny Gregory's books and own all of them, however, this is a book you can live without. The book is not like any of his other ones.

    Wonderful book

I loved this book... I felt so bad for the writer, his life took such a bad turn. But I was amazed at how well he and his family were able to handle their situation. I loved his positive outlook on life...

    Delightful and Inspiring

I saw this book while taking an advanced journaling workshop, and was enthralled with it. It is a wonderful example of celebrating life using the ordinary, the mundane, the simple things. Especially since it was undertaken in the urban landscape, this cultural log is a valuable insight of observation and reflection. It is easy to see beauty in wild and rural sketches and landscapes, but this detailing of 'everyday matters' attests to the expansive eye of the author. I ordered the book and am delighted to show it as an example to aspiring journalists and people who want to appreciate the wonder of everyday living.

I hope everyday still matters to him.

This book is a break from the normal book. I love drawings like this so I was intrigued. If you like drawings and NYC this is a book worth reading / viewing. His emotions came through in his words and death came through in some pictures. I hope his mental stability after his wife's accident and subsequent disability have stabilized. Drawing is therapy for him and the book is worth the read. At the end I think he has learned to embrace life. I would love to see another book showing the next stage of his life and the progression of his drawing.

    who has read this book?

I am particulary interested in this book since coming across a small review in a publisher's magazine. Who has read it and what did you think of it? I've given it five stars simply on the basis of the subject matter!
