Chapter One Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
What an amazing invitation! We are welcome -any time-to bring any petition before the King of the universe. Not only that, we are also admonished to "come before his presence with thanksgiving" (Psalm 95:2) and "singing" (Psalm 100:2). The all-powerful God we serve is interested in each one of us, and He truly wants to hear what we have to say. That's genuine love!
The words of these prayers are intended to challenge you as you develop a more intimate relationship with your heavenly Father-a relationship He is greatly anticipating.
If you do not wish to be prone to anger, do not feed the habit; give it nothing which may tend to its increase. Epictetus

I can't take it, Father. It sometimes seems like others deliberately do things to upset me. Maybe it's just how they are with everyone, but I have trouble not retaliating. I try so hard to be like You, but it's a struggle. Please help me control my anger; help me not to be so sensitive.
A Waste of Time
I did it again, Lord. I ruined an entire evening because of something incredibly ridiculous. I didn't sleep well because I was still fuming. My anger is always such a waste of time and energy. Forgive me, Father. Give me strength to control my temper, and don't let me ruin any more evenings for myself or for others.
The Right Time and Place
One of the most interesting stories in Your Word is about the time You cleansed the temple. It has taught me that there is a time and place for anger. Sin is always something that should invoke fury. Just help me to direct my anger at the sin and not the sinner.
Father, You know the emotional roller coaster I've been riding. I want to be happy for my friends when they rejoice, but the pain in my heart is so raw. It seems like my loved ones are flaunting their joy, and I can't help but react angrily. I know this hurts them and isn't pleasing to You. Please help me through this struggle.
I was just trying to help. I knew from personal experience that he was about to make a mistake. I tried to be gentle and loving, but he became so angry, telling me it was none of my business. Now he won't even speak to me, and that hurts. Please heal the breach, Father.
We can't form our children on our own concepts; we must take them and love them as God gives them to us. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
* * *
From the time I was a child, one of my greatest dreams was to be a mother. I did pretty well when I pretended with my dolls, but reality is a lot different. Now that I have children, I'm not always so sure of myself. Please, God, give me wisdom and courage to be a good parent.
Children can sometimes be so comical, Lord. They say the funniest things or make the silliest faces. Sometimes all I need to do on a tough day is watch them. They'll do something so hilarious that I can't help but laugh. I feel better right away. Children are a wonderful gift.
Lord, my children love it when I play with them, and sometimes my participation in their activities contributes significantly to their development. But to be honest, I'm not very good at their games. I'm often distracted by other things I need to do. Please don't let me lose sight of the truth- that playing with my children is an important accomplishment.
There's so much I need to teach my children about You, Lord. Throughout their lives there will be so many questions. They will face people and situations that will cause them to doubt You. Give me opportunities to instill Your Word so that when doubts come, they'll stand strong.
A Prayer for My Children
Just the other day someone reminded me of how important it is to pray for my children. So here I am, Lord. Please protect my kids. Work in their lives, so that they will want to serve You with body, mind, and soul. Provide those things that they need, and fill them with contentment as they bask in the warmth of Your love.
Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. Alexis de Tocqueville

My Church Family
My church is special to me in so many ways, Lord. I am so thankful that You have placed me among such a wonderful group of believers who encourage me and pray for me. Allow me to be a blessing to them, as well, and help me to never forget how important they are in my life.
Preaching the Truth
Thank You for my pastor, dear God. He loves You; and he loves those to whom he ministers. Knowing that his desire is to present the truths of the Bible is a great comfort in a world that is full of false teachings. Bless my pastor as he continues to preach Your Word.
There are many decisions being made on issues concerning our church, Father. They aren't easy decisions to make, and everyone has a different opinion on what the outcome should be. Please give us direction and unity. Work in our midst so that we might bring others into Your kingdom.
There are many precious people who offer their time and talents for You, Lord Jesus. I just want to thank You for each one. I appreciate those who make a public contribution as well as those who work behind the scenes. They mean more to me than I can say.
