Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
This book is a delightful treasure of information, projects, suggested readings and lots more about birds. The style is breezy, amusing, and will appeal to readers of all ages. In addition to providing many interesting facts such as explaining the five types of feathers, bone structure, and the speed a peregrine falcon attains in a dive (150 to 200 m.p.h.), the book is generously laced with references to classical mythology and sayings that relate to birds. In ancient Greece, to say "You came out of an egg" was a compliment. It meant you were good looking, and referred to the beautiful children of Leda the Swan and Zeus (Castor, Pollux and Helen of Troy). The open colorful layout should tempt the most reluctant reader.
