Overview

"This thoughtful exploration of family ties fairly sparkles with romance: the Sebastians have established themselves as a family to watch." Publishers Weekly.

A million dollars worth of charm. That's Evvie Sebastian's father's greatest asset. If only she could cash in Nick Sebastian's charm for the money!

It's hard for the four Sebastian girls- Evvie, Thea, Claire and Sybil- to adjust to a roller coaster lifestyle that depends on Dad's money deals. But loyalty- and above all, unquestioning love- rule the family.

When Evvie's parents ask her to spend the summer at the posh resort of Eastgate as a companion to her great-aunt Grace, Evvie expects disaster. Nick knows that Grace has always disapproved of him, and before Evvie leaves, he asked her to love him no matter what her aunt might reveal about him. Evvie doesn't know what to make of her father's cryptic parting words, but she doesn't have much time to think about them when, by a stoke of luck, she meets two very different boys, Sam Steinmetz and Schyler Hughes, who are handsome, intelligent and interested in her.

Both family story and first romance, Evvie At Sixteen, introduces the readers to the Sebastian family. In the words of one reviewer, "The Sebastians continue to be some of the most complicated, intriguing people in contemporary YA literature; their saga demands that readers confront the true essence of family."

Editorial Reviews

Phyllis Graves
The story has everything teenagers will want: mystery and suspense, strong family ties, and summer love. The crisp dialogue is right on target, giving each scene light drama and occasional humor. The character of the meddling old dowager, Grace, pervades the story and sets the background for conflict, while Evvie's father Nick is believable as the persistent dreamer. At the center is Evvie, a wise and charming teen, who knows her own mind.

    In my mind

I first read this series about 18 years ago (omg i wanna cry) but it has always stuck with me. I found the story to be exciting and urged me to read about the other sisters.
