Ex-Patriots by Peter Clines was calling my name after having just finished reading Ex-Heroes and, boy howdy, did it deliver. Packed with every bit as much action as it's predecessor, Ex-Patriots introduces us to the Unbreakables, a group of super soldiers led by Freedom a true American patriot, Dr Sorensen, the doctor who figured out how to create the super soldiers and Mr. Smith, the man who is behind the notion of having super soldiers. There are other new characters, including a new Hero and, of course Zzzap, St George, Stealth and Cerberus are back to entertain us. (YAY for a Buffy reference and a special 'cameo' of a Whedonverse alum)
Initially I thought the plot of Ex-Patriots was going to be extremely cliche and was not necessarily going to give up hope, but was not going to hold my breath that Ex-Patriots would be nearly as good as Ex-Heroes. I was wrong...in my opinion, it was better. It would be best for a reader to read the books in order, as there is not a lot of character development for the Heroes we were introduced to in the first book. I do not want to say much more about the book, because I don't want to chance any type of spoiler...as I said there was an element of predictability to the plot, but then all of a sudden KERPOW! I was hit with a HOLY GUACAMOLE, BATMAN moment, thus not wanting to chance spoilers.
Fast paced, full of action, humor and heroism, Ex-Patriots is a zombie/superhero book for true American readers (and anyone out of States, too).

A well written continuation. Enough action to keep you reading. Unlikely that zombies go with superheroes, but Clines does an excellent job. Well worth it.

>> This was a very succesful follow up book! The writing is so good that you cannot put the book down. Generally zombie genre books are disappointing- not here. The twist with having heros leading survivors works better than I could have imagined. Start with Ex-Heros, if you can. The world this author has created is completely engrossing with humble and believeable heros. The next book is eagerly awaited! A few minor things bugged me such as a scavenge trip where the hero has to keep stopping to move vehicles; this could have been safely done by him in the preceedings days to make the trip quicker and safer and more productive. Devoting some time to scavenge solar panels to ease Zzap's chore of creating electricity would be cool. A scene where one question I had from book 1 is answered by Stealth regarding why they have not cleared the ex's in LA; still I feel putting a dent in the ex population would be priority one to me. Aside from these few things; the story works- and does so very well! I am adding this author to my small list of faves with Mark Tufo and Bryan James!

A great sequel. Phenomenal series, with a fun premise. Superheroes meets Zombies, with a twist. Read Ex-Heroes first.

I loved the first novel (Ex-Heroes) and this is a very worthy follow-up. The expansion of the world outside The Mount is great and i thought the introduction of the super soldiers was awesome.
Looking forward to the next book!

Peter Clines proves that zombies and comics can be put together in a compelling story that deserves your attention. Funny at times thanks mostly to zzzap but never over the top like most people who approach either subject. Clines is obviously a fan of both genres and it shows in his work. Hollywood take notice!

Any book series that combines my two favorite genres, Superheroes and Zombies is a must-buy for me. When I first picked up Ex-Heroes, I was blown away by how good it was. Not only was it entertaining but also well written. This is not always the case with genre books. I eagerly awaited Ex-Patriots and was not disappointed. I thought they added a lot of substance by getting out of LA. My only criticism is that I don't like the main villain. He doesn't particularly scare me in the sense that iconic villains tend to. And actually giving a purpose to the Zombies actions makes them less scary.

Overview
It’s been two years since the world ended. Two years since the dead rose and the plague of ex-humanity decimated mankind. For most of that time, the superhero called St. George, formerly known to the world as the Mighty Dragon, has protected the people of Los Angeles at their film studio-turned-fortress, The Mount. Together with his fellow heroes—Cerberus, Zzzap, and Stealth—he’s tried to give the survivors hope and something like a real life. But the swollen population of the Mount is becoming harder and harder to sustain, and the heroes are feeling the pressure.
Hope arrives in the...
