If you are holding this booklet, you love Excel. You use Excel every work day for a variety of tasks, and you want to take your Excel skills to the next level by adding some VBA macros to your skill set. This is an excellent move.

Excel VBA enables you to automate mundane processes. Whether you want some code to produce a report for every department from a data set, or simply want a quick routine to make an ugly 40-minute process disappear into a few button clicks, Excel VBA is up to the task.

Unfortunately, the Excel Macro recorder often fails to deliver usable code. To succeed, you need to learn five critical concepts. You can then combine these concepts with recorded code to produce stellar results.

The lessons on this DVD come directly from the current version of my Power Macros seminar. My assumption is that you already use Excel 20–40 hours per week. You might have taken a class in BASIC or COBOL somewhere along the way, although this is not a prerequisite. You’ve also probably turned on the macro recorder and had varying degrees of frustration with it. If that sounds like you, I can get you up to speed with writing your own macros.

    Do you know VBA?

This book assumes you understand VBA. It gives the feeling of 'Hey, isn't this cool?' but doesn't break down the code. There isn't even an appendix of VBA commands for reference.

    more from this reviewer

A very good companion piece to reading the manuals

I learn things a lot better with visuals than by reading dry text and this video is a godsend for folks like me. Mr. Excel is very good at explaining the many different features on Excel that I never knew or used before and you would do well to pick up this teaching aide.

    A well written book

This was an excellent book! It was everything I'd hoped it would be - and more! This book is for any beginner to intermediate VBA programmer to build their skills. It will take you from recording macros to custom designing your own userforms and making everyone in the office give 'ooohh''s! The examples are complete, editing is superb, flow and design are both very commendable. Mr. Jelen and Mrs. Syrstad have done a very fine job on this book. I would recommend this to ANYBODY who wanted to learn or who was fairly proficient in VBA. It's packed full of useful, and efficient, methods that will save HOURS of work! When done reading, it will make a great reference for anybody in the office who uses Excel!
