"Exceptional Life" is an Exceptional Book

Stephen Arterburn is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors and “Exceptional Life, 8 Powerful Steps to Experiencing God’s Best for You” only serves to confirm my good opinion. This book is one you’ll want to own and to give. There’s something for everyone in this and the information is presented in a lively format with kindness and compassion. Arterburn often draws on personal experiences to illustrate his point, ,making the information more personal and, in my opinion, more readable.
The book focuses on eight behaviors that people get stuck in and how to get free of them in order to live your life more fully. Now, that might sound cliché but I found something new and fresh in each chapter. I particularly was taken with the analogy about fire and resentment. (It’s a lengthy explanation so I’ll let you read it yourself.) I found myself reading this one slowly, really wanting to absorb everything.
If you’ve ever struggled with, or are struggling with Greed, Resentment, Fear, Anger, Instant Gratification, Isolation, Learned Helplessness, or Addiction then there is a chapter for you. This book is a thoughtful and insightful tool to help you get free of some of these things and start you on a journey to a better life.
This book was provided to me in return for this review by Bethany House as part of their blogger review program.

    Not my style

The author takes eight things that keep us from having a wonderful experience with God and explains in each chapter how to get rid of the problem and strength our relationship.

The book was very well written with amusing stories and thought provoking statements to get the points across. But for some reason I just couldn't get into the book. It just wasn't my style. It would make a great devotional or a study group book for someone that can relate to the information. I just wasn't one of them.

I received this book free of charge from Bethany House in exchange for my honest review.
