About the Author

About the author
Teri is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer residing in Grand Junction, Colorado. Teri's love for animals led her on a journey in veterinary medicine as a veterinary technician. Though she loved gaining as much knowledge as she could in on the job training about the science of small animal medicine, what caught and held her attention was trying to understand why dogs and cats reacted to things differently.
Teri's life has always been involved with training animals. As a child spending her summers at her grandparents' acreage in New Mexico, she raised and trained chickens to perform different tasks by communicating to them through whistles and hand signals. She trained her first dog to sit at the age of 8. It was no surprise to her family when she decided to make dog training her profession as an adult. She became a dog trainer in 1987 while living in Orlando, Florida.
Realizing that she needed to separate herself from the dog training hobbyists that surrounded her, she pursued certification through the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) in 2002 and received a diploma from the American College of Applied Science as a Canine Behavior Counselor in 2003. While still working as a veterinary technician, Teri knew the only way she could make dog training her full time career was to start her own company. "Angels in the Making" was born in 2004.
Teri learns from every owner and every dog with whom she works. She does not believe in a "one size fits all" solution; rather, her motto is "if what you are doing isn't working, do something else!".
Teri has worked with shelter animals to help them find their forever homes by teaching them skills that will make them successful in the human world. It is heart wrenching to her knowing how many animals are thrown away simply because the owner didn't realize an animal's potential or purpose. Many of them were deemed and labeled "impossible to house train" as a reason for relinquishment. She set out to prove them wrong.
This is Teri's first book. She considers it another "chapter" in her journey with the animals!
