The Exilesby Hilary McKay, Eileen McKeating
Nothing ever happened in the Conroy family, and when something finally does, the four sisters, Ruth, Naomi, Rachel, and Phoebe, are sent where they can't disrupt their parents' plans--to their grandmother's for the summer. Big Grandma gives orders like a drill sargeant. But by summer's end, the girls and Big Grandma have come to a new understanding.

Absolutely one of the best books written about a family of girls. they do the nuttiest stuff (with total sincerity, not as troublemakers!) and the results are hilarious. You must read the whole series.
This book starts with an unusual scene and is funny right off the bat. 4 girls are sent to their grandmother's for the summer. One loves to eat, one doesn't care what other people think, and they all have crazy ideas. If you are a kid, looking for a good book,i recommend this one.
