Overview

"Promises mean nothing on this ship. Tell me the password."

Nobody knows what really happened when Rachael Baptiste's mom disappeared a week ago. So when Rachael's second-grade classmate Raul tries to break into her mom's computer only to be chased away by giant talking dogs, she follows him into the night and discovers that Raul-and her mom-have caught a magical sickness that lets them turn into magical animals, or Exotics.

A group of evil Exotics, the Shadow Dogs, kidnap Rachael and Raul to a mysterious ship and try to force them to tell them her mother's secrets...but Rachael's not talking. Instead, she's trying to find a way to escape the ship and rescue the Exotic kids trapped on board, waiting to be sold as pets...or are they?

About the Author

De Kenyon likes to cook and eat weird food that tastes good but grosses people out when they find out what's in it, like chocolate truffles with fish sauce, fish heads, or tongue sandwiches. Her next gross-food project is going to be finding a tasty way to cook brains, which she will then feed to her daughter, aged ten.

She does karate with her daughter now, just in case zombies attack or her daughter gets mad about something she's eaten.

Under her other name, DeAnna Knippling, she has written Choose Your Doom: Zombie Apocalypse, a pick-your-own-path comedy adventure about brains, purple mold, and the undead in which you die...but you might just save the world.

"This is how I like my zombies: fast and funny. Choose this book, and you won't be choosing your doom. You'll be choosing hours of gooey, gory hilarity."
- Steve Hockensmith, New York Times best-selling author of
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls
