  • Open up to change and growth

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
After repeatedly lookin' for love in all the wrong places, personal development guru Freston realized that she needed to change herself, not her prospective mate, to find happiness. Along the way, she compiled her mishmash of methods and tools into this loose compendium. Though the good bits are pretty good, it's basically just a 12-step approach fused with New Agey mumbo jumbo. Well-phrased observations ("Miracles are not always earth-shattering, but can, in their quiet and chancelike way, change our lives profoundly") are frequently counteracted by nonsense: "It is the law of spiritual evolution for love to expand itself." There are examples and anecdotes amid the how-to, but somehow this puzzler holds more promise than it delivers. Like Debra Mandel's Healing the Sensitive Heart: How To Stop Getting Hurt, Build Your Inner Strength, and Find the Love You Desire, this is for large public libraries and special collections dealing exclusively with self-help. From the Publisher
"Kathy Freston gives sensible, practical advice for advancing spiritually in order to allow love and right relationships into your life. I can't think of anyone who would not benefit from following it."

—Andrew Weil, M.D., author of 8 Weeks to Optimum Health

"Anyone searching for a healthy, loving relationship will find a practical, honest approach in Kathy Freston's Expect a Miracle. Her seven simple steps take us deeper into ourselves, in order to attract what we truly desire."

—John Gray, author of Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus and The Mars and Venus Diet and Exercise Solution

"This is a wonderful guide to the search for true love. Kathy Freston writes from the depth of her own knowing, as her faith is obviously based on real experience. She has more than survived; she has triumphed. And you get the feeling reading her book that if she can do it, then so can you."

—Marianne Williamson, author of A Return to Love and Everyday Grace
