Every time I read one of Linda Evans Shepherd’s books I know it is my favorite…until I read the next and I decide this one is definitely my favorite. Linda has done it again. I found Experiencing God’s Presence: Learning to Listen While You Pray incredibly helpful to my growth in prayer. Like her other prayer books, I definitely want to read this one again and work through the “listening prayers” again. Like her other books, this one is conversational, down to earth, friendly, loving, and will lead you to a deeper life in your following of Jesus Christ. Includes Linda’s personal stories, her own superb brand of humor, and leads you through many examples of “listening prayers.” Go deeper. Get this book and learn to listen while you pray.
Experiencing God’s Presence By: Linda Evans Shepherd I really liked this book. I believe it would make a wonderful study guide for a group study or one alone. I know it was a blessing to me. Linda is trying to show us how we can be better in our prayer life. We need to come to god boldly in our prayers and in our walk of life. We have not cause we ask not. Hebrews 4: 16 The book is set up in 12 Experiences each has the experience , discussion , prayers and Question and answering section. Linda is showing us how we need to be open to hear God. Are we listening to Him. I loved the part about blessings. She spoke of how people are hurt for being a Christian. Made fun of or sometimes even abused and killed for their belief. God will Bless you for all you do in His name. So many ways in this book to enrich your prayer life I recommend it to all.
I always enjoy Linda Evans Shepherd's heart, which is evident in all she does. "Experiencing God's Presence, Learning to Listen While You Pray" is no exception. She's taken some creative liberty combining fictional imaginations based on true bible stories with the non-fiction, genuinely helpful instruction and insights. Her personal stories add even more warmth to this effort to help others grow in their effective communion with God. The content is well organized, allowing the reader to consider various ways to interact with God through prayer. The inclusion of personalized prayer interspersed with her instruction actually helps the reader form the habit of pausing to commune with God. And the meditation ideas offered at the conclusion of each chapter truly sets the tone for one to tenderly draw closer to God. I do have a caveat specific to one sentence that, based on the entirety of the book and Linda's otherwise revealed understanding of theology, I believe was simply incorrectly worded. I actually called to speak to her and am confirmed that she does not believe that our prayer changes God's mind. Rather, when we pray we submit to God so that He can change our mind to line up with His will, which He often reveals to us as we pray—-that is, if we learn how to listen. This book is an excellent and compassionate instruction to help people do just that. I received a review copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. Experiencing God’s Presence, Learning to Listen While You Pray by Linda Evans Shepherd This is a great book designed to teach you how to have a deeper relationship with God by conversation with Him, seeking Him and seeing Him at work in our lives. The author shows you how the scriptures can speak to you, I would say how it comes alive. I especially like the ABC’s of a conversation with God, acknowledge Him, bring Him your concern, invite him in your day and chat with God about what is on your mind. You will also find examples of how God has worked in other peoples life and answered their prayer. The author also includes prayers and walks you through the steps. You will feel the presence of God after putting the steps into practice. This is a great book to use alone or as a group study. I have already put into practice some of the things I learned. Linda Evans Shepherd shows me how pray is a conversation with God just like a conversation with a trusted friend. I highly recommend this book. I want to thank the author and publisher for bringing Christian books like this one to readers like me. I would also like to thank The Book Club Network Inc. for providing me with this book in exchange for my honest review.
Inspiring! A self-help book in learning how to pray effectively and listen for God's response, this book is a valuable tool in discovering God's direction for our lives. Each chapter focuses on a topic that relates to conversations with God and scriptural lessons that confirm Jesus' examples and teachings on faith, renouncing the evil one, and believing the promises in scripture through Jesus' teachings. Lessons in quieting one's mind and praying conversational prayers lead to exercises in developing trust and listening for answers to those prayers. An exercise at the end of each section gives the reader space to write down significant highlights from each prayer which may reveal an immediate answer from God, or a response that may be revealed in time. Linda Evans Shepherd has written a powerful book illustrating practical tools for those who want a closer relationship with God. Scriptural references accurately support her examples. Lessons and prayers are practical and create an effective method of releasing the holds of evil from our lives and replacing those thoughts with faith-based beliefs. I found this book very informative and helpful in my prayer life, and will read this book again and again. I highly recommend it for those looking for a closer relationship with God. I look forward to reading more of this author's books! Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book through the Book Fun For Readers Only program and Revell in exchange for my honest review. If you had a conversation with God, but never listened to what He had to say back would you really be conversing? The logical answer is that we need to listen as much as we talk. The author has taken this and written a book about how to listen better when praying. Filled with scripture and probing questions, it takes the reader on a journey that will change and revolutionize their prayer life. Each chapter begins with a quote or scripture. The author then presents her thoughts on prayer with a clear, concise and easy to read manner. A prayer, several questions, and a section called "Making It Personal" are included at the end of each chapter. I really enjoyed reading this book. The author was able to present facts and scripture without it being too dry. The message was beautiful and so relevant to today. The book will be an added bonus to any Bible study or devotional time. I will definitely be keeping this book and highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their prayer life. I received this book free of charge from Book Fun in exchange for my honest review.
