Overview

Expert witnesses are retained in virtually every sort of litigation. In commercial cases, experts are asked to interpret complex financial data, in tort cases to explain the nature of injuries, or in criminal cases to translate underworld slang into everyday language. In Expert Testimony: A Guide for Expert Witnesses and the Lawyers Who Examine Them, Steven Lubet provides experts with the information they need for effective courtroom communication. Through his discussion of preparation, depositions, direct and cross-examination, and other components of the trial process, Lubet teaches expert witnesses how to make sure they "get to say what they really mean" while avoiding traps and snares set by opposing counsel. By analyzing and demystifying every aspect of opinion testimony, Lubet has created a work that is indispensable to accountants, physicians, psychologists, forensic scientists, engineers, attorneys, and all those who are retained as or engage the services of expert witnesses.
