Overview

Part of the EXPERTddx series, this unique print-and-electronic reference will guide radiologists toward logical, on-target differential diagnoses based on key imaging findings and clinical information. The book presents the most useful differential diagnoses for the musculoskeletal system, grouped into three categories: anatomy based, image based (radiograph/CT, MR, ultrasound, nuclear medicine), and clinically based. Each differential diagnosis includes at least eight clear, sharp, succinctly annotated images; a list of diagnostic possibilities sorted as common, less common, and rare but important; and brief, bulleted text offering helpful diagnostic clues.

The companion online Amirsys e-Book Advantage provides additional annotated images.

This volume of the landmark Diagnostic and Surgical Imaging Anatomy series combines a rich pictorial database of high-resolution images and lavish, 3-D color illustrations to help you interpret multiplanar scans with confidence. The book brings you close up to see key structures with meticulously labeled anatomic landmarks from axial, coronal, and sagittal planes. Contents include 300 detail-revealing 3-D color illustrations, 2,000 high-resolution digital scans, and at-a-glance imaging summaries for the musculoskeletal system.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Richard Tupler, MD (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This book in the Expert Differential Diagnoses series presents the most useful differential diagnoses for each region of the musculoskeletal system, grouped by specific anatomic location, imaging findings, modality-specific findings, or clinically-based indication. Each differential diagnosis includes multiple concisely labeled images in addition to a relevant list of diagnostic possibilities sorted as common, less common, and rare but important. The accompanying concise, bulleted text offers helpful diagnostic clues based on relevant differential considerations. The companion, online Amirsys e-Book Advantage provides additional annotated images and online access to the differential diagnosis approach.
Purpose: The apparent purpose of this print-and-electronic reference is to provide relevant differential diagnoses of musculoskeletal disorders based on key imaging findings and clinical information.
Audience: Though this is a quick reference for practicing radiologists, it is also well suited for radiology residents reviewing for oral boards (as there is likely no differential diagnosis or case presentation that one would be presented at boards that is not included here). In particular, this book has particular value during the day at the view box, where dedicated reading is not possible and a quick review of the relevant key facts with appropriate images and directed references may be more efficient and practical.
Features: The chapters cover all anatomic regions and disease entities. The book is well organized into sections by imaging feature, body part, and clinical indication with good quality images that serve to reinforce the key points. The book covers the essential differential considerations required in the analysis of musculoskeletal imaging with over 200 differential diagnoses. The organization makes important information easy to find while the high quality images serve to clarify the highlighted important concepts. In particular, the succinct outline format focuses on the differential diagnosis, essential imaging features and key clinical features of each condition.
Assessment: This exceptional resource on musculoskeletal imaging deserves a place in every radiology library as a quick and practical reference for any physician who regularly deals with multimodality musculoskeletal imaging. The construct and approach makes it particularly easy to look up an issue when reviewing images and also makes for a quick learning and review encounter.
