Exploding Pigs and Other Bizarre Animal Storiesby Ian Simmons, Ed Traquino
Collected from accounts the world over, Exploding Pigs and Other Strange Animal Stories is a litany of the odd deeds and misdeeds of all creatures great and small. Among these 375 brief and bizarre reports of animal mishaps and misadventures-from the drunken monkey who defended a pantry-corner foothold by hurling potatoes and oranges at the hapless homeowners to the team of rabbits that overtook a coastal Russian town by marching in formation to feed on sea kelp-are the animal stories you never heard as a child.
Try this one: "Farmer Walt Walters, of Invernell in Australia, reckoned his chicken Henrietta was a goner when he heard a screeching and clucking from the hen-house and discovered her lying motionless with ruffled feathers and her beak smoking from where she'd stuck it in a power socket. A few minutes later though, she was back on her feet, albeit a little dazed, and seemed none the worse for her ordeal. The next day, however, Mrs Walters dropped one of Henrietta's eggs when collecting them and instead of shattering, it just cracked a little-they were all hard-boiled. 'It's the oddest thing that happened in all my years on the farm,' said Mrs Walters."
