During a notable career the author, Col. Joseph Ambrose, received a number of awards including the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross with silver and bronze oak leaf clusters and a decoration of the Southern Cross of Brazil, presented to him by President Zargas. He was professor of Air Science at the University of Maryland, professor of political science at Christopher Newport University and taught at the College of William and Mary. He resides with his wife Geraldine at West Point, VA.
After an eminent career in the U.S. Air Force, which included a short tour in the White House, the editor, Col. Walbrook Swank, has devoted must time to writing about the Civil War and WW II. He received numerous awards for outstanding service including the A F Distinguished Service Medal and a Distinguished Service Citation from the Secretary of the Treasury. He has produced twenty books and received letters of commendation from U.S. Senator George Allea and Governor mark Warner of Virginia for contributions to our Southern heritage. He is the recipient of the Sir Moses Ezekiel Award and the Henry Tymrod Award for his contribution to Southern arts, culture, and letters. He resides with his wife Frances at Fredrick's Hall, VA.
