i chose this book because of the author--sir arthur conan doyle---before he was a Sir.-having read just his Sherlock books, i wanted to see what his other books could be like, and this one is a definite winner.---composed to a short story per chapter, this book tells of the exploits of brigadier general gerard---a young, dashing, and thoroughly entertaining soldier during the time of Napoleon. this book is great escapism. it reminds me of The Three Muskateers.it's highly recommened for anyone who is tired of modern-day times.

Quirky, quippy set of tales about a bumbling but loveable veteran of Napolean's elite cavalry, by the father of Sherlock Holmes
