Children's Literature - Annie Laura Smith
Weather and climate are international concerns which are addressed daily in the media. This exploration defines weather, and explains temperature, air pressure, precipitation, clouds, extreme weather, and climate change in the respective seven chapters. It explains the how and why of weather. Black and white illustrations supplement the text throughout the book. Sidebars titled Words to Know in each chapter provide relevant vocabulary definitions of weather-related terms. Twenty-five hands-on exercises throughout the book under the heading, Make Your Own, show how to make weather projects. These projects will engage readers in the dynamics of the forces of nature. There are instructions for an Edible Climate Zone Map, Weather Game, Rain Stick, Sun Catchers, and a variety of other items. Step-by-step instructions and a list of supplies are provided for each activity. In addition to the respective chapter Words to Know listings, a comprehensive Glossary provides an overview of weather-related terms. A Resources page cites books and websites for further research. An Index provides easy navigation through the text. Explore Weather and Climate! is part of the "Explore Your World! Series" which includes other science books: Explore Spring!, Explore Winter!, Explore the Solar System!, Explore Rocks and Minerals!, Explore Life Cycles!, Explore Water!, and Explore Rivers and Ponds!
